Welcome to Dyxum Luc.

Your shot could be improved by use of the ROT (rule of thirds). I can recommend our http://www.dyxum.com/dforum/new-assignments-index-and-rules_topic57081.html" rel="nofollow - Photographic Assignments as a starting point. ROT is covered in the first assignment.

Welcome Alastair. It looks like you have mastered how to post a pic, so let yourself loose in our photo forums. Just remember that we won't complain if a horizontal pic is 1024 pixels wide or a vertical 900 deep.

And remember if you try to make them bigger than that they are automatically downsized.

Me too; I like it with the people in the background and occupying the top 1/3rd.
But if you consider the pigeons as the sole subject, I'd agree with Cam and crop in closer.

Very nice shot DrBones, great relection and I like how you got a dark and cold atmosphere in there.

Only one request for the future (since we're an A-mount forum) is to indicate in the post if a shot is taken with a non A-mount camera

Non-Alpha photographs

Dyxum is a site dedicated to digital stills photography using with Alpha system cameras. We do not encourage the posting on Dyxum of stills photographs taken with other cameras. We do allow the posting of occasional (ie not regular and no more than one or two posts in a week) non-Alpha shots from ex-members or members running two systems. We have also been known to invite ex-Alpha system users who have switched systems to continue posting with their new equipment as 'Emeritus' members in recognition of their prior contribution, but this is very much an exception. We take the view that any attention non-Alpha shots get on the site is attention taken away from shots taken on Alpha equipment; we note that there are (very good) sites elsewhere where non-Alpha shots can be appreciated. Therefore the non-Alpha camera should not be mentioned in the post title but in the post pls. mention that the shot is taken with a non-Alpha camera to ensure they do not get picked up for the weekly exhibition.

OK, lets give this a shot... self teaching HDR.

Taken with my a35 using the bracketing feature, hand held... which resulted in the HDR image not being so sharp at 1:1 due to camera movements. I know better than to not use a tripod, but was being lazy. lol

Welcome Kyanite and steve14!
Both of you did a great job in uploading, as well as in photographing...

@Kyanite - for sure tripod will help, but even like this it is a very good job. I like the fact that the HDR is not overdone and overall the photo looks very natural.

@steve14 - very nice castle!

Looking forward to see more photos from both of you!

@slawrencephoto - I don't feel that I need to welcome you anymore - you are already a Senior Member... It is amazing that your first photo was posted only 2 weeks ago... Nice photo!

Yeah, we have plenty of creepy crawlies down here. The remote areas have spiderwebs all over the electronic lines and the mosquitoes are as big as birds. :)

@groover
great start and looking forward to more from you. Maybe give the contrast a little more bump in PP. This is one of my favorite type of images showing abandoned areas and IMO needs a slight gritty feel added. But still think it a nice Image.

@Eugenebor,
Along with groover above very nice start....and finish if you end here . As different as it is from above it gives me the same feeling of isolation but just in a much calmer atmosphere.

Welcome to both of you

John

Thank you all for the very warm welcome. Those trees actually close by place where I live, but fog did a good job to insulate busy background. I have few more variation of those trees made in different days, and different PP.
I think my next step will be to introduce myself and to post more pictures. I will find appropriate forums and do it. Thank again

Thank you for your comments. Roses are one of my favorite subjects to shoot. This one also happened to be the first shots I took with my new A77. It was a nice upgrade from the A200. This was a crop only no PP.

Hello, Dyxum. I am new to the hobby of photography, and I am excited to be a part of this great community. I recently purchased a Sony A57 and have been having fun learning about its features and capabilities. I hope you enjoy my first contribution:

Other than pulling the direct URL out of the flickr html/bbcode is there an easier way?

Hi all,
after quite some time mostly just lurking and only occasionally posting I thought it may be time to participate a bit more actively, inclusive posting some photos. Hope you'll like.
