There's something about her that reminds me Botticelli's birth of Venus. Nice shot.

I like this shot Ken. Think the model would look better with all dark hair, but i guess this was not your choice. Like her nails have the same color as the rest of her outfit. Lighting is great

Some great photos in this thread. Here's one from a set I took in 2012. An outdoor photo session in the woods. Sony A100 and the cz24-70 IIRC. Natural lighting.

Did you use a reflection screen here.? The light looks so smooth and almost no shades.

Hi. My image was with sunlight only. The trees diffused the light through the branches and leaves. No other light source involved as far as I can remember.

Got invited at the last minute by a friend to a model shoot. Never done anything like that before. Didn't have a lot of time to work on settings but I think I could really come to like this. Critiques would be appreciated.

Thanks rickztahone. There were quite a few little tweaks durring my PP in Lightroom. I did a custom white balance, increased the contrast and then recovered the highlights. Raised the vibrance and lowered the saturation. Did a little work with split toning with yellow highlights. In the end though, I would say it was the Beercan doing most of the work!

I never would have thought of lowering the saturation and split-toning. That is a great look if I say so myself. I love the beercan myself but as of late have been only reaching for the Sony 70-200.

What a shoes . For me the first two work best with #2 as the best shot here. Is this the same model you photograped on a car hood before? TFS

Here are a couple of photos I took with my a100 and Sigma 75-200/2.8-3.5 (so manual focus only);
I've got both colour and b&w versions of these but I can't decide which is better. Hope you like

great crisp images. I can not imagine her not being happy with the way these turned out. Great job and it just goes to show that you don't need the flashiest newest glass to take great pictures.

Especially for MF you did quite well. #1 looks a bit sharper than #2 - which has a better composition and more eye contact. Overall my favorite would be #2. Although #3 is not bad, the pose looks slightly unnatural to me. Thanks

@Freyr I like the colored ones better and I think the first shot is the best out if these three: Nice, simple easy to approach portrait.

@jmeviking: A little weird, but I like it :)!

@Bahudda: Cool 80s thing going on in your portrait! I like the pose and the background.

@trainerKEN: Nice pose and good lighting. Her neck looks a litttle weird because of the sharp transition from highlight to shadow.

@bigjt, Lisa: her eye(s) are almost hypnotizing. I love the soft light.

Does a female portrait have to have super soft light and airbrushed skin for it to be a good portrait? I got some feedback, that the lighting is too harsh and that I should have processed the skin more... What do you guys think?

A very good question! The lighting you've chosen is strong and a little hard, but I do like the pose. Is it OK to break or bend a 'rule'? Sure, and I think that it works in this case. My question would be -- Do YOU like it? More importantly, what does SHE think about it? As I keep looking I wonder if the whole setting should be different for this treatment. It is a classical pose and set up with unconventional lighting. Could you explore a more 'dynamic' or 'powerful' pose? Women have so many areas of life where they do express strength, force, and power. The light may lend itself to more like that.
About the processing. I think it is fine. Personally, I think people's skin should look like -- skin. Often I see portraits of women that are so processed that the end result looks non-human to me.
All of this is just opinion and personal thoughts. I do like the shot, and I'd like to see more along this line.

Mike

I use only free range, organic pixels. Some pixels have been processed, but no pixels were injured in the creation of my images. All pixels are returned to the wild.

@ Torben (Tmark) a nice start to your Dyxum posting career, but don't be shy with your sizing. We can can take verticals up to 900 pixels deep and horizontals up to 1024 pixels wide.

I like it but it's not the best photo that I've shot with her. I just wanted to try a little different lighting and mood and I think that it came out ok. She, on the other hand, does not like it... So that kind of seals the deal :)

I had my friend behind a wall opening with good lightning and cropped and aligned it.
I hope, I helped.
