No worries Colt. The first is somewhat dark under the wings and the second tight. In the third i like the composition. Nice roomy and not central. Well done

Rufous Hummingbird(s) - we have several dozen hummingbirds at our feeders this time of year and several Rufous Hummingbirds. These little guys try to intimidate the other hummers away from the feeders but eventually give up - too many others around. A77 Sigma 150-500.

Hard to follow these with my own mediocre ones.

White-faced Heron?

Native noicy myna, heavy crop.

Both with A350 and Mino 100-300 non APO, think I'll retire this lens from the kit as it just isn't sharp anywhere.

A young couple's wedding provided me with photo glut for the past two months - and an excuse to try out a lightly used a57 as my introduction to sony technology's translucently dark side

Am only slowly getting back to my more usual feathered subjects - for which the EVF is definitely a very mixed blessing. Here are some shots from terns in Bolsa Chica, sometimes the AF and EVF get it right but other times (especially with BIF) those viewfinder pixels have real trouble giving me the proper detail, contrast and brightness needed to quickly aim my 600 f4 and catch the action.

Oops - got a bit more than I bargained for -

Oh well, in that case I'll have the minnow salad!

Very much like the head on shot (I never get anything coming towards me in focus). And the two poses, poss the last one because it is so comic.

Thanks Tim, though actually the head-on was actually almost static as it hovered in the stiff breeze

That is one seriously menacing look from the Brown Goshawk Stan53, with the full 'angel of death' pose to go with it. Symmetry you captured in the face is amazing, feel sorry for the prey, but an extraordinary shot.

Hi Kenner1, these are pied fantails. they spread their tails like a fantail to attract their prey.

Actually, at f8, there is not enough depth of field, I am about 5 - 7m away from them. Might have got it better with a normal Sigma 70-300. But other than that, the mirror lens is an amazing one. In fact, I see great pictures from SAL500F80, Tamron 200-500mm as well as SAL70400G. But a friend got me thinking when he bought a SAL300F28 Mk1 at close to 40% discount off the actual retail price...

Birds, birds and more birds. Seem it's the only thing I find when I head out for an afternoon walk, might just have to start getting the wife used to the thought of buying a long prime at the rate I'm going with birding.

First BIF shot.

Tried getting closer but as I got off the path and into longer grass something with a tan brown tail, all that I saw of it, took off no more than 2 feet away from me. I quickly un-assed from the area knowing I'm in Eastern Brown territory!

What you looking at!

Flanking shot.

They are on the lower-contrast side (by preference) but I sort of think Photobucket is over-compressing them (or something on that order). Just for example, a crop from the first of the three:

...shows enough detail that it seems (at least to me) like the original should look sharper than it does.
