Yes, that is one train. If a train is long enough, it will "go over itself" at the Loop.

The reason for the loop isn't the ranch : it's there so that the railroad can gain the elevation it needs to cross the mountains, while keeping grades at a "reasonable" 2%.

Here's something a little less arid:

Is that only one train round the loop? Super panorama.

That's a strange loop. Why did they do that, or weren't they allowed to pass the farm on the foreground? Anyway, it gives us this great view. Maybe exposure could be a tad less, but what a shot!

@alanfrombangor - That is a very small steam engine. I've thought that you were from Bangor, Maine (USA) until I saw all of your British trains.

Anyway, here's the last few from 8/7/11...

I guess no Amtrak trains came by on this day, but plenty of CSX (they do own the tracks after all).

Thanks for looking.

Palmerston and Prince depart Dinas with the Welsh Highland Railway's Vintage train from Caernarfon to Porthmadog. Palmerston (1784 – 1865) was the British prime minister when these locomotives entered service.

Looks like we also went to the "Amshack" on 8/7/11. (Both stations in the Buffalo area are called that - I wish they would return to the old Buffalo Central Terminal)

It's been a while since I've posted.   There have been some incredible photos here since I last visited.

Here's a trio of mine from August 7, 2011:
1.

NS 9959 leads a manifest freight across Court Street in the village of Lancaster, NY. This is the old Erie Southern Tier line, later Erie-Lackawanna, then Conrail and now Norfolk-Southern.

Thanks for looking.

I recently visited Barnetby in Lincolnshire to record the semaphore signals before they're swept away by Network Rail's resignalling project.
