I went out in seas like that with the RNZNVR in their ML one day -- 1970s. It wasn't nice, as we had to transfer to the HMNZS Otago via the ship's ladder.

Here in Wisconsin, America's Dairyland, we love our Holstein cows. This sailboat proves it:

Have no fear Yankee sailors!   Because in the city marina at Escanaba. Michigan the US Coast Guard Auxillary stands ready to protect and serve.

Thanks Brettania. Have not posted for sometime being busy with the dpreview forums. Now I have to figure out how to do it here again.

Here are some random pictures (read not really PPed) of an event that took place in Bordeaux last year. There were nice boats around:

Part I

There was a nice Mexican ship (The Cuauhtémoc)

Part II

Here is the Belem, a French 3 masted training ship:

Lots of other boats on the Garonne river

Just wish I had more time to take pictures that day and more time to go on board too!

Nice pics everybody! Makes me wish the summer boating season would come back sooner. Here are two pics from a recent trip to the Philippines. Both were shot at Manila Bay it was too overcast for a spectacular sunset but there were plenty of boats of all sizes cruising the harbor.

Some time ago, to my surprise, I saw a large number of boats, near the "harbour" of Enschede (which seems to be an exaggeration to be called that for someone coming from Rotterdam), a large number of boats, not in the water but on the quay beside the water and here is a first shot of that somewhat motley collection:

I'll come back to this later.

Here are 2 examples of "downeast" lobster boats. Downeast refers to a time when boats of this type were predominately built "downeast" on the coast of Maine. "Lily" is an example of a purpose built lobster boat - in this case her purpose of tuna fishing - hence the very tall tower used to spot tuna on the surface. Removed for storage is a very long pulpit (a long narrow metal walkway with a railing) - 20' or so that attaches to the bow of the boat - where a harpooner would stand to throw the harpoon at the tuna on the surface. The tuna targeted by boats such as this are a minimum of 72" in lenght - a fish that size is @ 250lbs. The bluefin tuna grow to in excess of 1,000lbs...

The other is a more "general purpose" lobster boat - most likely used for recreational use - cruising, fishing, etc.

Enjoy.
