A pair of new windows are being installed in the church next door to where I live, marking 900 years since the church was mentioned in a charter by Henry I in 1122. The windows cover religious themes and local history.

The artist/designer is Nicholas Mynheer. |

Thank you! Using the telephoto from a low angle helped to minimise realignment in post.

I have no idea what's going on! I couldn't find anything on the library website. I'll make inquiries!

The library hasn't found an answer yet (in that there is nothing public explaining the piece of glass). However talking with a friend, he proposed that this could be Henry II doing penance after the murder of Thomas Beckett, then Archbishop of Canterbury in 1170. Wikipedia summarises it thus, 'The king performed a public act of penance on 12 July 1174 at Canterbury, when he publicly confessed his sins, and then allowed each bishop present, including Foliot, to give him five blows from a rod, then each of the 80 monks of Canterbury Cathedral gave the king three blows. The king then offered gifts to Becket's shrine and spent a vigil at Becket's tomb.' More at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Becket_controversy. |

On my way back from the south coast we stopped at Tudeley in Kent, not far from Tonbridge. All Saints church has a wonderful collection of stained glass by Marc Chagall.

Thanks, Pieter - it would be good to see others contributing to this thread. I rather like the exterior view of that glass.
