Itís newer. The main thing I see mentioned is the improved coatings. Itís a safe assumption that it is lighter. The Vivitar is an all metal tank. The build quality is superb and the movement precise. Itís quite nice. I have a like new copy in Minolta mount, complete with adapter and case. Although Father Time has taken a toll on the outer surface of the case. Probably impossible to find a mint case.

Iíve actually never used this lens. It was part of a box lot at auction.
