Got my a100 back from Sony after service

It now has firmware 1.03 loaded.

(dont think anything significantly new but havnt really checked in detail)

Thanks for the info.
Quite curious that they do install this new firmware while not providing it for download to all a100 owners.
One question; can you tell if there is any difference in high ISO performance and noise; there was some speculation that we may see new firmware with better noise suppression .

Not really - they did the same thing with v1.01. I don't think anyone ever knew what was in it.

Is there any way you could take a picture of the firmware version on the camera and post it...

This is the 2nd time I've heard of this....
I'd love to find out what it's all about....

My camera developed BF so I had to set it in to be calibrated

I saw a 1/10/07 Picture Browser update on the Sony site, but no 1.03 for US/Canada.

So BF/FF are caused by a bad AF sensor? The only other reason I can think of is that the actual CCD/sensor is somehow the wrong distance from the lens which I don't know if that makes all that much difference anyway since that would be the same and moving +-~1mm from your subject.

in my case i think the AF sensor was misaligned so it was just a simple mechanical calibration. I got it back in 2 days - very impressive turnaround IMO.
