We had a meet up in Manchester with Alan , Phil and myself . Unfortunately Howard was unable to make it , better luck next time !
The weather forecast was good for the weekend and Monday , so obviously it started off raining most of the day Sunday .
It cleared up later on in the evening , and gave us a nice sunny day on Monday .

I'm sure Phil or Alan will post a group shot of us shortly , but here's a start with some shots from the Salford Quays on the Manchester Ship canal .

I hope your journey home was less troublesome than the outward. I caught the 15:55 from Piccadilly to Crewe for a short wait to another Avanti service to Bangor.

A1. I took a few pictures at Victoria which I'll post in the stations thread, and a couple of the Christmas Market while walking through the rain to meet Neil and Phil.

A2. Dutch delicacies in the rain.

My journey to Manchester was extended - first by the train being delayed by 55mins, then, as we travelled north, the decision was made to terminate the service at Macclesfield. So I had to change at Stoke-on-Trent, where it seemed there would be a suitable train arriving 10 mins after I alighted. However, this seemed to have been cancelled! Instead I caught a train that should have arrived 20 minutes before I got to Stoke - but this too was running 50 minutes late - so, after a 30 minute wait, I caught it. In all I was 1 hour 20 minutes late getting to Manchester. The journey home was not so taxing - the train ran according to the timetable, a 15 minute walk to my car and a smooth drive home on a very quiet A34.

Oh heavens, I'm sorry to hear that Phil. That could or should have been me!

(I'm on the return journey from Holland and have my own bag of Dutch treats in the boot of the car.)

I look forward to more photos soon!

After finally reaching Mancehster I soon found Alan and Neil in a nearby coffee shop and we set off for Media City.

P2: Heading out from the coffee shop a tram appeared out of the wall in front of us.

P3: Looking down the Manchester Ship Canal at the two footbridges we used to get to the restaurant we chose for shelter from the increasing drizzle. The Imperial War Museum North on the far bank.

P4: Crossing the first bridge we were passed by a guy on a hire bike - which projected the bicyle image on the ground ahead or it. Alan taking a shot at the rail.

P5: One of my shots from roughly where Alan was standing in the previous shot, showing the other bridge, which can be lifted to allow small ships to pass into the Media City basin.

P6: The Media City basin.

P7: The lifting bridge in red.

P8: Offices.

P9: Stairs in The Lowry.

P10: Masks on the wall of the restaurant.

For once the plan worked! After our meal we emerged to dry weather and clearing skies

P11: Detail of the lifting bridge in blue.

P12: Media City.

P13: Neil brought a tripod along so I borrowed it for a few longer exposures - here is the lifting bridge in green ...

P14: ... and a more panoramic view of the media city area.

Nice additions!

Alan, Greek street food served by a sikh, a true international experience

Phil, both the Lowry stairs and the blue lifting bridge are very nice

I've nothing very different to add from the evening, not surprising as we were all using the Sony FE 24-105 G OSS f4 and similar bodies, and generally using the same railing for stability.
A3. The rain had ceased but mist is still evident from the more distant buildings.

A4.

A5. And now it's pink!

A6. The BBC moved some operations here several years ago.

Fantastic, colorful images (despite the weather conditions)! I like the night shots in particular!

A lovely bit of armchair travel for those of us unfamiliar with Manchester.
Love the colourful night lighting, the reflections in the water.
Obviously quite a lot has been achieved to re-invent the place after the industrial base fell quiet.
Thanks for posting.

We met again on Monday morning and Neil guided us to areas of Manchester I've not visited before.

A7. A wider lens or my tilt-shift would have been handy at times but I prefer the simplicity of one camera, one lens for such a tour.

A8. Canal reflection

A9. Open late

A10. Canal basin.

A11. Rough sleeper.

A12. Nettle by the canal.

A13. Crane.
