As bad as it sounds, it would explain the A700's delay over in Europe. I hope its not true though.. |

It appears to have been confirmed that the grip sensor on the body and the VG of the A700 are not going to be featured in the EU version. (This from the same thread on DPR mentioned yesterday).
Apparently because of Nickel content in the metal. EU and Japan ban Nickel where it can come into contact with the skin and cause allergic reactions. Maybe USA folks are not so sensitive ![]() As I said, this apparently has been confirmed by Sony Europe, but this is third hand info. I would have hoped that Sony could have used an alternative alloy for the grip sensor. It is possible this is one of the reasons that the A700 is delayed in EU and JA? |

It that is confirmed, then I guess that there will be a substantial amount of Europeans buying from oversea.

If this is really true it's beyond incredibly stupid of Sony not to research this properly in advance....

I might as well add it here -
The paint on my grip sensor has already come off, after one day of use. I don't mind (the sensor looks mostly silver); but perhaps they know it does this, and that is why? Eh, who knows... |

The ban on Nickel in the EU perhaps came out after Minolta film cameras. The type of metal looks different on the A700 to the grip on my Dynax 5 film. |

The grip sensor was last seen on one of the A Dimages from KM: either the A2 or the A200... Thing is, if it is the nickel content, then how does disabling it help - the nickel is still there to be in contact with the skin...?

Presumably they are removing the nickel metal part, not just disabling it. Maffe in another thread says his (in Sweden) does not have a grip sensor, I have asked him to show us a photo of it. Sweden also has a ban on Nickel. |

but if maffe already has a vg-less one.. why would there be a delay for the rest of the EU and Japan?

Maffe has an advance one? - I don't think it is generally available in Sweden yet.
It is pure speculation that this issue has anything at all to do with the delayed release in EU and JA relative to USA. It could be for any number of other reasons, like documentation differences, other approvals needed, or just part of the grand Sony plan. ![]() |
