Latest Amateur Photographer has a 9 page review of the Alpha 700 - interesting comment at the end of the "verdict" : "Sony has contacted AP to inform us that a firmware update will be available around the time this test is published. The spokesman was vague , but apparently it will make image quality 'even better'."

From a quick glance through it seems to be a very favourable review and puts the 700 level with the Canon 40D on 88%. They feature a lot on DRO with some good examples. But the lack of live view is highlighted and they don't seem to like the continuous AF performance as much as most users have reported.

Interesting, I saw that in the preview two weeks ago that the review is coming this week, you must be a subscriber though as I have to wait for Tuesday when it hits the shops

I wonder what the new firmware contains.

Nothing on the Sony Support Website yet where the A100 firmware is available.

Well, I recieved mine yesterday... and I like it al lot! For all the things that are written on this forum. Didn't have time to check the continuous AF, but the IQ is just great! And you can crop like forever....

Yes, I am looking forward to reading the full AP review this week. They are the only UK magazine left with proper reviews now, they tell it like it is, and don't show any favoritism.

As was demonstrated by the complete slating the Canon data bank storage device got when reviewed this week!

I was kind of worried in case Sony have gotten it wrong, but from what bengeo says it came out ok. (edit for typo)

Its often easy to forget that while some people are not happy with feature X or Y, the new camera is probably exceptional to people coming from lower models.

Personally I am going to hold off for now as I feel the biggest problem with my 5D and the quality is the idiot behind the camera still...

There's a bit of the AP test here . AP scored it 88% - same as Canon 40d. Overall a very encouraging and positive review - but they didn't like the lack of live-view.

Which tells me that they think a700 is a better camera apart from the LV jippo?

Its a nice review.

Conclusion at the end is weird, as she says she rates the 40D top, but the little podium graphic has the A700 on top?

Its nice that they included the bit about Sony wanting 25% market share and second spot behind Canon, and that with no live view and a long wait they are not going to get there...
