Hey, fast response !! ;)

Birmingham has some nice museums as well as the canals and the like. It has been a few years since I have been there, but with a bit of planning we can move forwards.

It's just waiting on numbers and names. It would be nice to have more people from the midlands there too ;)

Friday/Saturday best for me during Oct/Nov [might even work well with the "One Prime" challenge] - and Birmingham easy enough to get down to - as mentioned previously, not sure a weekend would be good for the Black Country museum, but if there are other museums & canalside architecture etc then that sounds good...

...so count me in for one.

Cheers

Yes, but you're still allowed to have bad days and low days and days you just wanna spend on other things. ;)

So far there are four possible takers, I think we just need to get the number of posts up to make it more visible - there is a possibility of another Dutch meet coming up soon, which might get people looking at the meeting threads :-)

I don't know how to take this further. As for people interested, there would be some locals joining in. Blake would be one, I'd think. And of course you know Matthew from April :)

I've no major probably with roaming. If it were in Coventry then within the city centre there are a few nice areas, including the Cathedral, Holy Trinity Church, the urban side of the city and the Motor Museum. If you fancy a bit of nature there is the Canal Basin and part of the Canal network.

So, numbers? Where shall we start :D

Suggested SonA because I lived there for a few years a very long time ago and I know there's more to it than the tourist stuff.

However, second thoughts say Birmingham is a better bet...accessible by train and I'm thinking the canal bit, Gas Street.

Either way, it depends on what people are after, as well as accessability...

Um, yes, I suppose. I've not really gone much for Stratford in the past. I shall quiz the ex-in-law, he's from there... ;)

Certainly up for a meet - and went to the Black Country Museum last Friday [I'd describe it as being in NW Birmingham] - very good day, lots of photo ops, but (a) it got very crowded [holidays] & (b) because it depicts 'dim & dingy' living, dynamic range was a bit of a prob with shots including the sky - so I'd recommend weekday late afternoon [maybe in Oct/Nov] for perhaps the best lighting [and also no school parties].

...as to other locations, could also go up into the dales for scenics & towns [Matlock Bath, Bakewell, Buxton].

Cheers

As per advice from Bob, I'd like to start fishing (ie a sub-thread) for/of an 'expression of interest' for a meeting in the Midlands (uk) area.

Now, as far as I'm aware "The Midlands" stretch as far as Nottingham, Stoke, Bromsgrove, Warwick and Daventry. That kinda area.

However, I'm in Coventry, corner of West Midlands and Warwickshire.

I'm not even sure yet of where to go in the area. There are a few military museums around, some tall things and a fair bit of Heritage.

For example, and please correct me if you have better ideas, we have.

Motor Heritage Centre, Gaydon
Coventry Motor Museum, Coventry
The Motorcycle Museum, Birmingham
Cosford Museum, Wolverhampton

I'm sure there is a Black Country Museum in the Black Country, but I'm not sure where it is. There are some ironworks / museum thingys at Telford too, Ironbridge?

I'm not a native of the midlands, but I've lived here for about 7 years. Due to work constraints I don't get to visit these, and some I haven't visited at all.

For other things, there is the Coventry Cathedral Spire which has been recently reopened at a height of 90 meters or there abouts. Which is still "very high" in my book too. Of course, you can always just stop halfway up!!! :)

There are about 3 Minolta Users I know about in the area, and of that one is enthusuastic about motor vehicles and cameras, and the other has been playing with Minoltas for decades!

Transport links. Well, we have trains, planes, busses and of course the humble car. A train is only a couple hours from London if that, but I'd think that the car would be a popular option.

I spend a lot of time out at night when I can, and here are some of my night stuff from Coventry.

I assume this is off for now, [maybe until Chris picks up his 300/4 on the D200? - go away for a week & it's "all change"!!] - but I hope you're still going to do the website article [general, if not specific to RP ?]

Cheers
