Lots of nice views inside the Oxford colleges - if you can get in! I found that much more difficult last time I went there than when I actually studied there forty-five years ago. Some nice walks outside the town too, I recall, but the place is pretty packed with tourists most of the time.

As an alumnus you’ll have free admission to at least one college!
I’m watching Martin Parr in the Wex-sponsored event this evening. He gave quite a good plug for the Bristol Photo Festival this year. So there’s something there to provide an extra dimension to a visit, with the MPF and the RPS running a photo book fair. If the tourists get too much in the harbour area, or if it rains, there’s another option to fall back on. |

Bristol would be very convenient for me.
I had hoped to spread my wings post-lockdown, as my daughter lives near Reading. However, she and her family will be moving to Mons in Belgium very soon, so I will no longer be visiting Reading. My youngest daughter lives in Brisol so my wife could shop whilst I shoot. Edited by mgjsmith - 10 March 2021 at 18:49 |

Bristol can work for me. Some sunset shots of suspension bridge in late June / early July (when sun is setting at its most north westerly point in the year) would be nice.

I'm heading down to Cornwall for the first few days of June. Going to be around the Bodmin area so easy reach of St Austell, Padstow, Pentire Point and even Trebarwith (If @BigSi fancies a retrospective 7 years on from this?). I need to fit it around a few things, but if anyone is in the area and fancies doing a sunrise, sunset or even astro thing if the weather allows, let me know

Well, some discussion and the three contenders seem to be: Bristol; Oxford and London. I'm afraid Bristol is too far for me, but I worked there (at the Clifton Driving Test Centre) for a couple of years in the 1990s when we lived in the West Country. I agree there are a number of good photo attractions but the journey is very much a long diagonal from Lincolnshire and 7 hours of driving would eat into the day.
Oxford is closer, but not by much journey wise, but I don't know Oxford at all and would like to visit it one day. London is my pick as it is an hour by train and as our capitol city has so much to offer I never get tired of visiting it. (The last time was to Buckingham Palace for my wife to receive her OBE ) So that's my 2p worth. |

Wouldn't want to ruin your family trip
I wouldn't use public transport at the moment so I'd be driving to all places. But I live in London so its more convenient during normal times but finding parking is really hard if I have to drive. But if the meeting is later in the year then the protects are different. Both Bristol and Oxford are driving distance for me. |

I'm planning to visit Brands Hatch tomorrow morning.
They often have testing sessions at Brands Hatch on Fridays and entry to the circuit for spectators is free - you don't get much idea about what is likely to be going around but they have a Caterham event this weekend, so I'd expect lots of 7s... If anyone is free tomorrow morning and is within reach of the Swanley area of Kent, feel free to give a shout... A previous Brands Hatch meet-up |
