That flight deck could use some TLC.

I noticed that the USS Hornet not just WW2 era carrier, it also was the carrier that picked up the three astronauts (Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins, and Buzz Aldrin) from the first Moon landing mission, Apollo 11, after splashdown about 900 miles southwest of Hawaii in the Pacific Ocean on 24 July 1969. A lot of history there!

TFS.

Yes addy!

1. Spent the Day on the ship

2. the astronauts quarantine facility
I was walking in the footsteps (literally) of the iconic Neil Armstrong, First Man on the Moon mission. Wow

3. On the Bridge; How Kool was that?

4.

It played a major part in the Pacific battles of World War II, and served in the Vietnam War, and also played a part in the Apollo program, recovering the Apollo 11 and Apollo 12 astronauts as they returned from the Moon."
(Neil Armstrong 1st Man on the Moon)
Named after the aircraft carrier which led the Jimmy Doolittle "Tokyo"Raid on Tokyo"

This ship was the 2nd USS Hornet. The 1st one was sunk in the war but not before it played one of the most significant American events of WWll.
Jimmy Doolittle "Raid on Tokyo"
