Which of your Sony cameras allows to photograph in
1.2x Digital Zoom Mode
and
save the 1.2x JPG to one card
and save a full size ARW to the other card
at the same time?

Thank you for helping me to solve that riddle,
Mark

Not much of a riddle

Welcome to Dyxum, Mark_Eberts

Edit: I would think it would work with the normal RAW+JPG option, it seems it doesn't. However, cropping after the fact is easy, even on mobile devices.

I don't think any Sony camera can do that. When I select RAW+JPEG, any digital zoom capability at all is unavailable.

Thank you so much!

I have 2x A7rII bodies set up individually for 1.2x DZ JPG and
the other to ARW
to achieve just that. (never mind the two sets of G glass :-).

I was hoping to upgrade my cameras to silent shutter (A9)
and to save the headache of matching Sony JPG to converted RAW>16bit Tiff
which
is still not 100% possible?!?!?!?!

I tried everything from CO,LR,ACR,Iridient,DXO ... you name it!

I guess in my case I should just forget about it.

I've done extensive testing with both versions of digital zoom against cropping afterward and there is very little in it. For such a minimal zoom/crop you might as well do the cropping afterward, and this is exactly equivalent in results to the basic zoom anyway. With heavy zooming (2x) there is a small benefit in clear-image zoom (less noticeable jpeg artefacts on high-contrast edges).

Or do you want the jpeg crops for immediate viewing purposes, while keeping some border for later PP work?

You could replace an A7rII with a 24 MP APS-C body and get more detail. It would be a 1.53x digital zoom instead of 1.2x, but you could save a JPG and ARW at the same time.

Thank you!
I just got word that the Q2 can do it.
So that would mean that the Panasonic S could do it ... and for that matter it seems to me as if Sony of all people could also do it ... but for reasons unbeknownst did not think about doing it ;-)
