Nex 5 with the pancake zoom works wonderfully as a pocket camera for me. It has an APS-C sensor, and the price is right too. With in camera lens correction the image is cleaned up before it hits the memory card. There was even a viewfinder attachment made for it. What's not to like?

I had an RX100, and it worked fine for its intended use. It did come on a couple of holidays with me as a backup and so long as it had sufficient light, it was fine.
... except for the size and ergonomics. The contrast between my A-mount bodies and the plethora of physical control, and the tiny RX100 sans controls or EVF was too great. In the end I found it to be too fiddly for more fingers to enjoy. I didn't use it as an everyday carry because I just didn't enjoy it as much I wanted to. It was passed on to my daughter (now 23yo) who loves it because it's uncomplicated to use and gives her better images than she gets with her phone. I then bought an LX100. A smidgen larger, more controls (including dedicated controls for aperture, shutter speed and compensation), and FWIW, a slightly larger sensor. That got more use than my RX100 did because it felt more camera-like in my hands. Until my partner asked if I had a spare camera for when we went walking with a local camera Meetup group, so now she has it. Fortuitously, I came across a very clean D-Lux typ 109 at the right price, so my LX100 was instantly replaced by its red-dotted sibling. With accessory grip it feels even more like a camera and it comes with me everywhere (unless I'm taking something larger). I wouldn't rule out any generation of the RX100, but I would recommend testing it thoroughly for size and feel before buying. |

I improved the feel of my RX100 with a skin from aki-asahi.com. You can go tasteful with black or tan or navy, or you can have fun - my daughter likes that the RX100 is skinned in deep pink. ![]() ![]() (images lifted from website) Or you can be super lucky. I wanted a skin for my D-Lux typ 109 but only black synthetic leather is shown on the website for that model ![]() ![]() Edited by Atom Ant Oz - 30 July 2019 at 05:59 |

Very popular among compact camera enthusiasts. There are eight to choose from, so look for the functions and features that match your needs. |
