New Year, new photo outings ...

Day 1 I was late getting out, so no birds and not much sun

2016 001

I have previously attempted this shot, I think the geometry works here
1

Rokkor 200 and cheap Zhyongyi turbo adapter and DxO ClearView slider colorized this nicely!
2

Another previously attempted shot that this may be the best version; this time I used layers to boost the shadows

All MC 200/3.5 + cheap turbo + nex7

The challenge was how to photograph a black car at dusk.

At the weekly market I wanted the four pink colors, but was annoyed with people walking past, and with the sign in the way. A big crop and the tilt adapter is pretty close to what I was going for.

A nice start of the new year Paul. Love the shallow dof's, especially in #2016 001 -3 and in # 2016 002. While the Jaguar XJ is exposed well in 6, i think it would look much better if more isolated. TFS

Thanks MichelvA! I try to "let the lens do the work" - shallow DOF is the lens's job!

Beyond 1:1 exercise - C/Y 60/2.8 makro + extension tubes (I think 65mm?) - the stack height of a surface mount jumper row is something like 9mm, it almost fills the wide side of the 25.6mm sensor, so maybe 2.5:1 macro?

f16 + 5600flash on cam with reflector
Using a turbo adapter makes MFD of the lens inside the barrel! so the turbo on a 1:1 macro isn't all that useful.

another layers to boost shadows and desaturate

Found it!
SLR Magic 35/1.7 was in a box maybe for 2 years
The first generation of the lo-fi movement
Just the kind of thing to experiment with in the Day Prime Challenge!

1 Typical

2 unreal colors

Beyond 1:1 (I think)
Industar 69 28/2.8 + 3 extension tubes
too many tubes, the short registration distance made this shot iso2500 at f2.8 1/60, not good for handheld
3 this fella was in my salad greens!

Part of the exercise is to do more processing, since I almost always only do some global sliders and call it good.

Today's exercise was similar to the what-do-you-call-it method (there was a Contest last year) of stacking successively more out-of-focus shots in layers; here I used longer exposures with ND over a standard shot. 6 long exposures, I needed more movement so I wiggled the lens.

MC 200/3.5 f5.6 base, f22 long exposures nex7 ND4

Boug Blowing

For the first I didn't adjust the shots so the camera movement between wiggling the lens was hundreds of pixels. For the second I aligned them, rotated the fence, and did the flip trick. Lemme know which you like better/worse/both/neither.

3D Glasses - the ones I used to watch the Star Wars (7) movie last night

MC 85/1.7 nex7 CPL

I actually liked the movie. Didn't think I'd like it but they did as well as you could be expected to do.

On a camera-related level, someone sat on the director and prevented him from putting obnoxious flare into every shot (starts at 2:50 if you're skipping ahead).

3D was okay, certainly didn't add much except for the few "in your face" 3D shots. I think they front-loaded the 3D; by the third reel there wasn't much 3D at all.

great idea and some amazing shots!
I know of many kinds of 3D glasses, but can't wrap my brain around this one?

Thanks angora - I put a polarizer on the camera lens - 3D glasses are polarized with each eye opposite, one lens horizontal and one vertical. I cancelled out the one on the right with the polarizer on the camera. The movie theater projectors have polarizers on the lenses.

Fisheye macro

In a previous Day Prime I had tried to use extension tubes to make a 'macro' out of the 8mm fisheye, but even the shortest extension tube didn't focus, I'm assuming it moved the focal plane inside the front element.

Today I freelensed, I removed the lens then jammed it back up against the lens mount, so it was only a few mm, which puts the focal plane up to the lens hood.

Certainly not 1:1, but surprisingly close for an 8mm lens! Samyang E 8/2.8 @f8 (I think)

1 Well-heeled digital photographer

hood pressed against the screen; notice the focal plane is not at all planar (unsurprisingly)

2 fisheye macro environmental portrait

3 diguise the fish

gotta watch the hood when freelensing! I haven't previously encountered blue Chromatic Aberration - the CA sliders in DxO are maxed with the 'purple fringing' box checked and it barely reduced it - anybody know what optical or digital sensor bug this is?

I had the Amount Samyang 8/3.5 fish and sold it when I got the Emount Samyang 8/2.8 fish. Objectively the Amount has 'better' image quality, but the Emount is only a little bigger than a body cap, and the nex3 is only a little bigger than a lens rear cap, so it's a backup body that's ready for fun! It fits in the empty space of a full camera bag and weighs almost nothing. It's on my list of 'favorite' kit, and if I can figure out 'fisheye macro environmental portrait' ....

TY!! appreciate... I fell in love with 3D photography 10 years ago. after being involved for a long time with 3D cg. (and worked for a company in Buffalo, NY).
still don't get the pola filter + lens, forgive me??
IMHO all 3D captures start with stereo i.e. the distance between your eyes, approx. 6.5 cm, which enables you to see depth??

wide-angle macro? kewl!!
(in love with the Venus 15mm lens)

freelensing Rokinon/Samyang 12/2
This one won't focus if it's off the mount very far, so I tilted the lens to try to get anything in focus; the petals are almost touching the lens hood

cheap Zhyongyi lens turbo with MD 35/2.8

1 I see aliens

2 ears

3 ladybug

freelensed, a little off the mount for a little more magnification; the turbo concentrates light so there isn't as much light loss from moving the lens away from the sensor - higher shutter speed obviously good for handheld
