Many thanks. I appreciate your comments. I'm starting to get away from viewing film images the same way I do for digital. Film is quite different and despite the digital cameras and lenses I have invested in, and very happy with, I'm really enjoying analogue photography. |

Bravo Brian - these look slightly differently processed to yesterday's... more tonal range? Difficult to say precisely as they are on different pages, but good stuff all the same!
My second film has just come out of the 'soup' - couldn't resist the temptation to put some Rollei 'Superpan' through the Rolleiflex... |

I'm not a participant and don't know anything about film.
But I'm curious - why are all pics B&W? Is it because it's easier to process pics at home? |

The ease (and economy) of home processing is at least part of it.
It is possible to process c41 and E6 at home, but while with black and white you have to allow extra time if the chemicals are a bit below room temp, the colour stuff generally has to be done at about 38-39 Celsius, which is a bit more challenging to maintain. I dare say we will get some colour stuff posted through... |

Black and white is a different kind of film from colour. As Bob said, it is easier to do yourself then colour. I just brought my colour film to the local shop to get it developed.

I'm also shooting my first film in colour (Kodak Porta 160, still 8 exposures to go) but then I have to bring it to a shop for developing (C41). However I still plan to scan and PP myself when the negatives are developed.
After that I'll do a few rolls of B&W which I will develop myself. Is anybody shooting colour slides? |

Yup. Got a roll of Velvia 50 in my 9. Planning to shoot it on a trip coming up. |

I choose b/w film for the enforced discipline of visualising monochrome. With digital I can decide whether to keep the oolour or covert to mono. Even if I switch to mono jpg I can still see the live view in mono and I am able to change it. Edited by alanfrombangor - 17 September 2020 at 13:45 |

I'm not in, but if I were it would be b/w for me. Ilford FP4 probably. I don't recall using any other film for black and white although It was Kodak Vericolor for colour prints and Agfa for slides (transparencies).
It would be purely for nostalgia. My first steps into developing and printing my own pictures were black and white. I still have many of them in a box somewhere, and one or two in an old fashioned album. I must admit to being tempted to put a roll in my old Olympus OM1 although I'd have to send the film to a lab for processing these days. Ian |

My second roll was Rollei 'Superpan' 200 in an old Rolleiflex - as there are only 12 on a roll of 120, I can fit them all into one posting!
Processing was in R09, digitising was done with my a7ii and the trusts Minolta 50 macro... bob2.1 frame 1 - getting the frame level with a TLR can be a bit of a challenge - if I wasn't using the negative edge as a border I would have cropped. River Gates at the Naval College, Greenwich. ![]() bob2.2 frame 4 - Interior of the chapel at the Naval College - more levelling problems, but quite happy that the tricky exposure got sorted. ![]() bob2.3 frame 5 - The dome of the Naval College over the Painted Hall - I used the sports finder for this shot (hence it is not all out of 'wonk'). ![]() bob2.4 frame 9 - Derelict crame and jetty at Erith on the Thames. ![]() Edited by Bob J - 17 September 2020 at 18:02 |

OK, so here's some colour and my first batch of four from twelve keepers on a 36-exp Kodak Gold 200 film with expiry in 2014. Processed at Snappy Snaps in Oxford - develop and scan with delivery by wetransfer of the JPGs within 30+ minutes of dropping off the film.
I used a Dynax 7 with 50mm F1.7 for the first 3 shots and a Tamron SP 70-300 USD zoom for the fourth. Exposure info at Flickr. All pictures taken in Cornwall last weekend. 1.1 ![]() Bench 1.2 ![]() St Michael's Mount 1.3 ![]() The cottage at Frenchman's Creek 1.4 ![]() The Lizard Lighthouse Gosh, it's nice to be using film again, and I'll post 5-12 tomorrow.
