Welcome to the Dyxum July challenge for 2020! The past years we have had many questions asking if we can we do other prime weeks next to week 50. Well, like last year, this year July will give you the chance to do this. This summer, we are inviting members to take part in a challenge designed to use your primes. Last year we limited to "classic" primes but this year we expand the scope to "all primes" except for those that can be used in week 50 later this year The challenge starts Wednesday July 1 with a training period until July 5 to select and test the lenses you will use. Then we have: Week A: Any prime of 29 mm or shorter (or taped zoom end) Week B: 30-49 mm primes (or taped zoom end) Week C: 60-105 mm primes (or taped zoom end) Week D: Any prime of 106 mm or longer (or taped zoom end) But: All shots for each week should be taken at the same focal length. So you can use different lenses in the same week as long as they have the same focal length. As you can see in the schedule, there are no dates given for the weeks. The purpose of this is to give you complete freedom in choosing the moment that you make and post your photos as long as you make your photos between the start date (July 6) and the end date (August 2) of the challenge. This is the most flexible Dyxum challenge ever ![]() ![]() In the first week of July we will post 4 Day threads every day, one for each week. So at the end of the first week, all Day threads of the challenge will be open for your contributions; and you have complete freedom to fill them with your photos. Each participant can post 7 photos per week, one per day. Try to post in each daily thread if you can. Naturally, there will be outtakes threads for very enthusiastic members and for pics that didn't quite make it into the main threads. Also, don't worry if you can't commit to 7 each week - maybe try 3 or 5 each week; also: if you can't commit to 4 weeks: do 1, 2 or 3 weeks. This challenge is for everyone! It does not matter if you are a professional or a beginner. Everyone will learn something and everyone can enjoy it. The goal is to go out shooting and have fun! Rules 1. Only one pic per member in each daily thread. 2. A or E mount cameras only. Any lens goes. 3. Comment on other photographs in the Talk Thread as much as possible 4. Only cropping in one direction, or minor cropping for straightening You may like to add extra challenges on top such as Pic a Day, "No flowers", Selfies Only - use your imagination here but stick to rules 1-4 as well. State your additional challenge when you sign up below. Signup or questions? Just post below! Edited by waldo_posth - 29 June 2020 at 22:36 |

Of course I'm in
![]() Focal length 17 mm (only 1 lens, the Minolta Rokkor 17/4) 35 mm (multiple options, will try to use them all) 100 mm (multiple options, will try to use them all) 200 mm (multiple options, will try to use them all) The second week of the challenge (July 13-19) is also the 200 mm day prime week, so there's a good opportunity to do "double duty" there ![]() |

is defishing a fisheye shot allowed?
Something I always wanted to try but never got around to, I ask because defishing will crop a fair amount. |

I chose 20, 35, 85, and 100 mm last year. I am choosing different focal lengths for this year. There's no real reason to use zoom ends, but I might.
Week A: 24 mm Tamron 24/2.8 OSD Samyang 24/2.8 Sony 24/2 ZA SSM Minolta AF 24-50/4 Minolta AF 24-85/3.5-4.5 Minolta AF 24-105/3.5-4.5 Week B: 45 mm Sigma 45/2.8 C Rokinon 45/1.8 Tamron SP 45/1.8 VC USD Minolta MD 45/2 Week C: 75 mm Samyang 75/1.8 Sony 28-75/2.8 SAM Minolta 75-300 D I am still interested in the Iberit 75/2.4. Week D: 135 mm Sony 135/2.8 STF Minolta AF 135/2.8 Minolta MD 135/3.5 Minolta MD 50-135/3.5 Minolta AF 28-135/4-4.5 Edited by QuietOC - 09 June 2020 at 19:56 |

I have tradiotionally taken part in this challenge, so I guess I'll play this year too.
Preliminary thoughts on focal lengths/lenses: Week 1: probably 24 mm and Sony FE 1.4/24, although there would be also more challenging options like LAOWA 15 mm F4 Macro... Week 2: maybe 35 mm and CZ 2.8/35 (and possibly CZ 4/16-35 OSS @ 35 mm if desperate) Week 3: tough choice between 90 mm (Sony FE 2.8/90 Macro G OSS) and 100 mm (Sony FE 2.8/100 STF GM OSS, Minolta AF 100 mm F2.8 Macro, Minolta AF 100 mm F2) Week 4: maybe again easy path and 150 mm (Sigma EX 150 mm F2.8 Macro HSM), bubbling under 135 mm (Minolta 135 STF!), in dreams some fast supertele prime... And I will reserve the right to use also other equipment than just the challenge choices. |

Welcome Anand, Phil, Matthew, Joe, Heikki, Greg and Brian, it's great to see so many people already sign up the first day
![]() One comment:
Brian, did you see this in the first post?
So you will have to make a choice for week A ![]() But I do like your stereoscopic challenge, looking forward to the results. I have a stereo viewer that will help seeing stereo images on my screen. I just need to magnify or reduce them to approx. the correct size. |
