Training Thread July is almost upon us. As mentioned in the sign-up thread this years weeks are: Jul 6-12, Jul 13-19, Jul 20-26 and Jul 27-Aug 2 and we'll use the period from July 1-5 for "training" "Training" can mean a lot of things, you can try out the fov and perspective of the four (or less if you don't join all weeks) focal lenths that you will use for the challenge, or you can even try different ones to make your final selection. Remember, you can use as many lenses as you like for this years' July Prime weeks but only one focal length per week. If there's any training effort worth sharing or you need advice, this is the thread to use. The other threads (outtakes, talk, thumbnail, daily threads for the 4 weeks) will all be created in the coming days, but with this thread the fun can already start very soon ![]() Happy shooting. Better get things going then:
20.1: Composition with Blue Bins ![]() Camera Model: ILCE-7RM2 Lens: Meyer Görlitz Optimat 1:1.5 f=2cm, the fixed lens of the Siemens CII 16 mm film camera (1940) Aperture: f/1.5 Exposure Time: 0.002 sec (1/640) ISO: 100 The image circle of this tiny 16 mm film lens is smaller than the small side of the FF image, but slightly larger than the small side of the APSC frame. I can make planets by cropping 1:1 and with careful framing an image that can be cropped to square or 2:3 within the image circle. Still sensor resolution is much larger than lens resolution, this lens is about vintage charm not high end performance. 20.2: The Summer of 2020 ![]() Camera Model: ILCE-7RM2 Lens: Meyer Görlitz Optimat 1:1.5 f=2cm, the fixed lens of the Siemens CII 16 mm film camera (1940) Aperture: f/1.5 Exposure Time: 0.003 sec (1/400) ISO: 100 Edited by Snegren - 01 July 2020 at 22:00 |

Yesterday morning I was among those who had read the challenge rules little too cursorily and thus decided to snap few shots in case I won't manage to find better subjects later in day. I guess few shots are still worth publishing, although the later start makes me to wonder if I should still choose the more challenging lens (LAOWA 15 mm F4 Wide Macro) for the first week...

Just got myself a like new Minolta AF 28mm 1:2. Have always wanted one, like the 100/2 that I got a while back. Don't know why exactly, but now I can do july at f/2 (28/35/100).

Today I had to go to Antwerp and receive a delivery more garden wood for our daughter's garden. Traffic into town is horrible these days due to all kind of construction works so I went by bicycle and to do some training I also took the A7ii and MC-Rokkor 17/4 along to see what I could catch. I usually need more WA training than tele training
![]() 1: Jobs for the weekend (for those who follow Gardeneres world on BBC2 every friday evening) ![]() It's 11 m3 of compost that needs to be wheel barreled into our daughter's garden (behind the white house with the blue letterbox). Fortunately she arranged 8 friends to come and help with this, so dad is off-duty this weekend ![]() 2: Come into my arms (Park Spoor Oost) ![]() 3: Railway jumble ![]() 4: This is why taking a bicycle into Antwerp is such a good idea, and I was lucky, the threatening clouds didn't release one drop ![]() ![]() 5: On the way back I passed the old yeast factory along the King Albert canal ![]() 6: Barge "Scheldestad" slowing down to enter the Wijnegem locks ![]() Under the bridge across the canal in Wijnegem a graffiti artist made fun of two well known Belgian politicians who were often in the news during the Corona crisis, and not always for a serious reason 7: Minister of public health Maggie De Block, she was caught on camera during a zoom meeting poking her nose. Obviously the footage went viral ![]() ![]() 8: Minister of justice Koen Geens, when visiting a workshop where lady volunteers were sewing face masks he had a lot of trouble putting one on, also footage that went viral on social media. ![]() All A7ii + MC Rokkor 17/4 Tomorrow I'm participating in a photo walk in the "Loonse en Drunense Duinen" (an inland dune area near Tilburg) and I'll take one of all my July focal length along to do a bit more training, so there's more to come. |

Thanks Brian, but as mentioned I did take all my focal length (one lens for each) to my photowalk in the Loonse and Drunense duinen yesterday.
Here's a small selection (one per focal length): 17 mm, dune grass under a threatening sky (we did get sprinkled now and then) ![]() 35 mm, more dune grass, under a more benign sky ![]() 100 mm, memorial for 22 resistance fighters executed in the area by the Germans on May 26, 1944. There is no record where the execution exactly took place and their bodies were never found ![]() ![]() 200 mm, horse train ![]() 17 mm: A7ii + MC-Rokkor 17/4 35 mm: A7ii + Samyang FE 35/2.8 100 mm: A7Rii + OM Zuiko 100/2.8 200 mm: A7Rii + OM Zuiko 200/4 |
