2021-2022 FILM CHALLENGE!

Well I'm in. I just shot some photos in Bulgaria this summer while I was there visiting friends and relatives. I'm waiting on them to be developed. So, I'm in for this challenge. I'll post as soon as I get the photos back and scan the photos/negatives.

Ok I'm surprisingly late to this, having wrongfooted myself by not having any film in a Dynax SLR when I started the thread (I know I said it didn't matter, but I wanted to start with a Minolta AF camera).

Anyhow, here is my first film for this year's challenge - shot on a Dynax 7 using AGFAPHOTO APX400, developed in R09.

The first two here are experiments using the 'STF mode' of the Dynax 7... Basically the camera forms a shot from multiple exposures with different aperture values to achieve an STF-like effect. Of course, if your camera has such a mode that works well on a tripod, the urge is to try it in ways it was not intended for...

(I had problems with drying marks on this film, must invest in some proper wetting agent..)

Thanks for the comments on my Leica series. I know I should have started with a Minolta camera (I have 2, a 505 si super and a 7) but the Leica is such a joy to use and is throwing me back on how I learned to photograph, with a full manual camera and using a hand-held exposure meter. I promise to do a Minolta next to make up for this "lapse"

@Idleidolidyll, it's not really grain in #11, it's specks of rust on a cortensteel plate that give the impression of very course film grain.

@Bob J, Yes, I also think Maarten's photo is the best of the set, the nice thing about film is that you only find out you caught the right facial expression after you have developed and scanned the film, chimping doesn't work . I like your moving STF experiments, very creative, I would have never thought of trying something like this but now I do. Time to load the next film in the 7. And if you often feel like in 02 imo the best remedy is to stabilise

That's another interesting idea Bob. How does it move the aperture from large to small or small to large. For this idea about a car in a bend I would think large to small would work best, I'm assuming it doesn't AF between the shots, so the car might stay "somewhat" sharp that way due to the increased dof.

I may have just had a disaster, or I may have got away with something...
As I was developing my latest film (Kentmere 400, R09)I had an 'incident'.

In pouring out the developer, the lid fell off the tank (but I always do it up! - not well enough obviously...).

I replaced it quickly, but light will have got in to ISO 400 film. I'm curious as to whether I've got away with anything as it was dilute developer and wash and stop went in straight after - I'm hoping that the super-long fix I gave the film will deal with any fogging... I will report back...

..never too old (or stupid) to make a mistake...
