Thanks, nandbytes! A few more hours left ... maybe we can get a few more. A dozen works too (the current count), no worries.

We have our list of 12 for the 2022 DPE. Let me work my magic to re-order the list to optimize the geographical spread. I have to dig up the spreadsheet I used in prior years. I'll post the sorted list sometime this weekend. Get ready to prep 5 cards, folks!

With 12 participants, I may send postcards to all 11 others!! I love printing 4x6 images nowadays here at home.

Mmm, indeed, why not send your best shots to everyone?

BTW, your calculations on the distances? Like to see the thoughts behind those calculations.

I will post the final list on Sunday. I'm Pacific time, so later in the day Sunday for most of you.

RE: the method I am using, here are the steps I will take:

**1) Bucket folks into "local regions" (using the Country field that is displayed on Dyxum)

Bucket 1: we have 3 from the Netherlands in Bucket 1
Bucket 2: I put the 2 USA and 1 Australia participants in Bucket 2
Bucket 3: I put the 2 UK and 1 Belgium in Bucket 3
Bucket 4: the remaining 3 I put into a final bucket ... from Poland, Finland, Germany

**2) I will use a random number generator to sort participants in each bucket

**3) I will pull names from each bucket sequentially until we get our sorted list of 12.

Look for another post tomorrow/today, ha!

OK, let's go! Here is the final list.

1     Fred_S
2     gregja
3     nandbytes
4     waldo_posth
5     KoBra64
6     ADub128
7     pegelli
8     MiPr
9     Harm vb
10     alpha_in_exile
11     Howard_S
12     Hezu

The idea is to send cards to the 5 people BELOW you on the list (wrapping the list if you are close to the bottom). For example: #5 will be sending postcards to #6, #7, #8, #9 and #10.

At the end of the list, we just wrap around to the top. So #10 will send a card to #11, #12, #1, #2 and #3.

Like Fred_S did last year, I did my best to maximize the geographical spread. With the smaller number of participants, you may be sending to or receiving from folks you sent to or received from before. All good, always nice to catch up with old friends!!

To make this happen each person should PM their postal address to the 5 people ABOVE themself on the list. For example #3 should PM their postal address to #2, #1, #12, #11 and #10. Don't post your address here!!

One additional request is to write the date on your card. It's hard to tell when some of the cards were sent since the postmarks can be non-existent or illegible.

And if you have more than 5 cards available then just announce it in this thread. History has learned that there are always volunteers to get one of those via a PM with their address. [Note: I am more than happy to send a card to everyone on the list! Everyone, please PM me, ADub128, your mailing address]

When PMing your postal address please mind its formatting - put it in exactly the same format as expected by your post office: different countries use different formatting and it can be painful to make sure that all is done correctly.

BTW, the unspoken agreement is that postal addresses exchanged by PMs will be used solely for the purpose of Dyxum Postcard Exchange. Please mind privacy of fellow Dyxumers!

Have fun all!!

Sent my address to the 5 people above me in the list.

Now the selection will start!

Enjoy!

Impressively organised, like a World Cup of Postcard Exchanges!

I've had three addresses sent to me already and I'll sort my obligations out in the morning.

Thanks for the kind words, Howard!

With Fred_S's help, I think we have streamlined the DPE process pretty well, very easy to organize. Now it's time for the participants to do the heavy lifting. Don't stress though, since we know you have other life obligations too!

I'll do my best Anand!

My address has now been sent out, and my next task will be to think about getting the cards done.
