July Challenge has kicked off!
Rather complex sounding but ultimately flexible in that the 4 themes (7 images each) of Macro, Scapes (City, Land, Sea), Street Photography and Artificial Light are able to be photographed any time or day across the month, and using any sort of gear. Entirely up to the participant how it is done, using whatever kit, and when. Looking forward to seeing the posts and commenting along the way. |

Well, I thought I should at least have to take a picture on day 2 - but I noticed that taking a picture with a macro at minimum focus distance is not that easy, I need to take more time. Thankfully I do these challenges on a 7-a-week basis otherwise I already was screwed....
Slow start indeed unfortunately for me, but I am not alone it seems. |

Personally, I find minimum focus macro fairly easy (at least with other macro lenses than LAOWA 15 mm F4), although there is still few challenges, eg. moving targets are tough to handle: photographing plants and invertebrate on plants is quite hard if there is wind and guess what? Today was quite windy day! !#^@*!.
And of course there is always the challenge to find the suitable photogenic subjects. Preferably also different subjects you have already shown earlier. Also one may have trouble in finding time and enthusiasm to do photography. I have to admit it was close that I didn't today scrap my plan to do one subject at time and start posting also 'scapes in addition to macro photos - I would have had quite decent candidate I took last night. I think I'll save posting that cityscape from home window with noctilucent clouds for later time... |

It's early days, but sofar I've managed pic-a-day even though that's not a stated challenge or objective for me
Indeed a slow start and I found it hard to get going as well, maybe too much flexibility leads to inaction, don't know. But several interesting pictures posted so far by those who jumped in, but too early to start commenting already. I don't know if I will stick with one subject per week or start mixing the subjects, but I do plan to have one photo of each subject category for every weekday. @waldo_posth, a question, for instance if I shoot a street photo tomorrow after my two scapes of monday/tuesday, I think it's most logical to post that in day 3 street and fill up day 1 and day 2 street later with street shots taken on a monday and tuesday. Do you agree with that posting sequence? |

I needed to take an event pass for todays image. It was a street setting, so it should be all right.

And interesting general note of this challenge so far: majority of those participants who have so far posted something every day, have chosen the tactic to cover multiple subjects rather than sticking with one for whole week. |

But I'll try to not use it for more than half of my challenge shots. |

@pegelli - and all other participants of this challenge
Pieter has pointed correctly, I think, to the freedom which everybody here has to fill the daily "slots" of the subjects (A, B, C, D to keep it short). Nowhere do we have the restriction/rule that it is a single week of July in which you have to complete (ideally, by posting an image each day - 7/week) the task involved. To give an example with topic B: the Monday and Wednesday images could by posted during the first week, the Friday image during the second, the Tuesday and Sunday images during the third and the Saturday image during the fourth week (and in the same manner for other subjects - A, C, D). The goal, IMO, is to fill as many slots as (it is for you) possible of the challenge. Hope that's a clarification. Sorry for the late response. I am still in the process of recovering from COVID. |
