The DYXUM long-term film challenge 2023-2024 edition

What is the DYXUM long-term film challenge 2023-2024?
This film challenge is simply about revisiting analogue photography for a bit of nostalgia, experiencing a radically different workflow and ultimately, appreciating how convenient our modern equipment is.

Who
Any Dyxumer can join this challenge. Just start posting and follow the recommendations for posting below.

When
The idea is to keep shooting film - and continuing this challenge into next year - starting now and ending (nominally) on 31 December 2024 – this challenge is flexible, because analogue photography is a bit like that….

Why
Many Dyxumers have requested the return of the film challenge in the recent past. They are invited to make it a success - by continuous and frequent postings!

Equipment
You can use any film camera and any lens you like (no matter what brand or format: 4x5, medium format, subminiature - it's all permissible). We will be pleased if one of your first rolls uses an alpha-mount (Minolta AF) camera - a Minolta or Konica SR (pre-AF) camera will also be welcomed. As an alpha-mount forum we try to keep up the tradition of DYNAX and MAXXUM cameras, of course. But if you don't have one, you are invited to participate nevertheless. Participation clearly has priority.

Results
Try to post your images following the 1/3rd keepers principle: the best images of a roll making up (about) a third of the total outcome of the shots on the roll. But if there are more (or less) keepers on the roll post them at your discretion.

We would also invite you to "subscribe" to this challenge, talk about the cameras you want to use or any projects you intend to pursue within this challenge.

To make the thread a bit less photo-intensive please split your photo-posts into groups of 4 shots - it will be easier to navigate. When posting please state the camera, lens and film used. You might also want to mention how the photo was digitzed (what scanner/software).

We do not set up a separate talk thread for this challenge. Please respond to the posted images within the thread. But there will be a thumbnail thread which will allow us to have a vote for an exhibition at the end. Please take the effort to create a thumbnail for your images in this thread. To make tracking your photos easier please number your photos continuously in a "unique" way - as in the format "your initials + number"!

I'm going to take a Minolta Hi-Matic 7sII with Kodak Ektar 100 to the Grand Canyon. But that won't be until November. I have two undeveloped films from New York: Fuji Superia 400 and Kodak Portra 800. Maybe it will be possible to make them earlier.

I prefer not to list all my analog cameras
Sony a7R4, a6400. E, A and MD lenses.

Thank you, Brian and Mariusz, for going first.

Listing the cameras "in use" looks like a wise choice (and there is always the lure to expand the list).

My Minolta Dynax 7 (limited) will definitely see some use. I am not sure what other sleeping beauties I want to wake. I have some project for my Toyo 45A - more on the details with the first post.

Sadly I had two Minolta Dynax 7 cameras, a standard one and a “Limited” with the gold trim. When the standard one developed the terminal aperture mechanism fault I reluctantly pressed the Limited into service, only to discover it had fallen victim badly to the sticky grip syndrome.

After an hour or so of removing the mess with isopropyl alcohol I was pleased with the result only to be rewarded, during the very first film, to a total aperture mechanism failure, AGAIN! . It’s back in its box and up in the loft, probably until I pop my clogs.

Moved to a Dynax 9 after that, but I have read that the 9 can also suffer the aperture mechanism issue. Fingers crossed .

Edit: I would love to secure a Minolta a-9 Ti, if anyone can be tempted to part with theirs for a good price

Scary... I also have Minolta Dynax 7 that I intend to use for this challenge.
I have a backup in the form of Minolta Dynax 800si but I don't intend to use it unless my beloved 7 develops a failure. Hopefully not - it's been always going strong.

I have also 3 films, two B&W and one colour film that are developed but not yet scanned. Those are mostly family shots and I don't share those, so not many frames to choose from (once I do finally scan those).

And the scanner will be my trusty Nikon Coolscan ED V.

I think I should have some super old stock of some films still left in the fridge and I will start with this. Let's see how this will turn out.

So, to sum this all up: Dynax 7, some films that I still may have somewhere (I'll let you know what I find :) ) and Nikon to digitize it all. I already start appreciating modern gear :D

Modern gear: Pentax' efforts to bring out a new film camera make some progress.

I have just discovered a roll of B&W taken on a photo walkabout in Stamford with the Leica a few weeks ago. I remember that I had forgotten what film was in it and took my settings on the sekonic light meter for HP4 ISO100 and the film was actually HP5 ISO400.

If I process it, how do I adjust development timings to compensate for the -2 exposure? IOW how do I pull two stops using Ilford Ilfosol 3 developer?

I'll be in (after oktoberfest).

My camera's for use are Dynax 7 (ex bonneville), Leica M2 and Olympus OM4T (both bought 2nd hand by me in the mid 70's (M2) and mid '90s (OM4T))

I also still have a Dynax 505si and OM2SpotProgram, but since I have better cameras from both brands they don't get used anymore.

Film wise I'll stay with my favourite FP4+ and HP5+, home developed in 1-shot diluted Microphen and then further scanned and processed on the computer.
If I get gutsy I might use a few expired Fuji and Agfa colour films I found in the back of a cabinet a few weeks ago when cleaning out. Probably long expired, but maybe a stop overexposure vs. the stated sensitivity might give some interesting results. Could be a nice experiment, only thing I don't like is that I have to bring them to a shop for developing, I don't want to get into C41 at home.
