Oh Brian, I feel very sorry for you, reminds me of developing in too old stock of Ilfoltol (it states clearly on the bottle it should be used within 3 month of opening) but I thought no better than using from a bottle that had been open multiple years. The film came out completely blank, even no number/film print on the sides outside the perforation
![]() Ah well, live and learn, aren't we all allowed to make every mistake once ![]() I still use the old-fashioned Patterson development tanks and spool in the film in a completely dark bathroom. I've thought about the Lab Box to avoid having to spool in by touch and feel only in complete darkness but so far haven't bought one. After this story I might just stay with the method I'm most familiar with. |

I feel for you Brian!
Caffenol: no never. I have some Rodinal (R9) in the cupboard, I don't think that goes bad like Pieters Ilfotol ![]() Medium format cameras: Zenza Bronica cameras can be had surprisingly cheap as can early Mamiya 645 cameras - if the Pentacon Six repair does not work. |

Thank you so much my Dyxum friends. The film wasn't "crucial" and I am fairly sure I won't make that same mistake again, but I would have preferred to have been posting nice grainy images rather than grumbling about what an idiot I am. It won't stop me home developing though. TBH when I last had a film processed at my local town photo print shop I was underwhelmed by the service and quality, not to mention the cost and the several days it took them to obviously send it away themselves. No, the answer is to shoot, develop and post lots more films and this challenge offers over a year to indulge myself.
You mention medium format Addy, my only 120 film camera is a Microcord that Bob J introduced me to. And to cheer myself up I have my eye on a dealer's near mint CLA'd Rollieflex T (aka the Vivian Meier camera). Watch this space ![]() Edited by bonneville - 01 October 2023 at 14:20 |

All the best, Brian, for the next try!
And I wish you good luck to pick up a decent medium format camera! |

Commiserations, Brian and good luck with the Rolleiflex!
When I start the challenge I'll be using commercial services for processing, and I shall try to resist adding another camera to the pile here! |

Pieter, there is nothing wrong with the Lab-Box, indeed it is a brilliant solution to the fumble in the dark process (ah! those were the days ![]() So please don’t let me put you off, try it and I’m sure you will agree. |

I don’t think I’ve officially signed up, but hopefully this posting can count as my sign-up and first set of shots.
Set 1 of 3 - The Queens House, Greenwich This is the first colour roll I’ve processed myself (using a Cine Stills two bath kit). The camera was the AutoReflex T3 that I’ve owned since I was 17. Shots were scanned using a Plustek 135i scanner.
