So, I have just got my developed Velvia 50 and it is still good 14 years after expiry date! :D
Now some scanning and I will be able to post some selected results :)
It seems I like more than 1/3rd of the roll so maybe I will post more in other themed views. Here I will choose the top 12 frames.

Now, where do I have my Coolscan and will it work under Windows 11...?

BTW looking at all those B&W shots and done on film makes me believe those were made several years ago. Only those cars - as mentioned before - tell the real time those were shot. And all this talk made me interested in Leica :P Well... maybe some other time.

The last windows version which the Nikon software for the Coolscan could work with was Windows 7 - AFAIK. You need to get a third-party software like Silverfast or Vuescan to do the scanning.

SO it seems I have some special "vista" drivers for the scanner and it started working beautifully under Windows 11. All as normal, I even have my Nikon Scan 4.0 software to do all the scanning. Expect some results soon :)

I have shot 36 frames on Fujifilm Velvia 50 using Minolta Dynax 7. At first I loved all frames, after all it took some time to finish the roll and all were taken with consideration. Today the selection process took less than expected when I suddenly stopped liking most of them - go figure... Anyway, those that remained, I like very much and hope so will you.
By the way, all this analogue process made me remember all the troubles we've had with the media and why I loved my a900 so much that I haven't take any images on film for 10 years. Now a7RV beats anagoue easily. The one aspect that remains to be matched is colour. And that feel that is probably defined by grain. And the whole process that makes you think many times before you press the shutter. And some more aspects too...

OK, both have their place ;) but I think I won't be looking for medium format scanner and new camera after all.

Here goes my first batch of images.

M-1-1: High Tatras

24-70 f2.8 ZA SSM, 35mm, f9, 1/40s, -0,3EV, CPL

M-1-2: Tatra Mountains, slope

M-1-3: View from Hillfort Stradów

M-1-4: In Puszcza Kozienicka

The first and the second in the series are just extraordinary - not only in terms of color! The last one is also very special colorwise!

You now can get in-camera simulation of films (15 for the Fuji 100XF, e.g. "Velvia vivid") - but I don't think the chemical way to catch light can really be equalled by digital sensors (FOVEON sensors might come close).

As to your decision not to go medium format: Usually a lot of discussion is spent on comparison between the resolution of digital sensor and medium/large format analog images. For an extreme example see here. Quite a different question is depth of field and medium (or large) format lenses (see here for some explanation). They behave differently and create a different set of conditions for the photographer. The experience and the image is different. That still might be tempting.

Thank you for kind comment :)
I am aware of the film simulations in Fujifilm cameras but I own none of those. I would need to try and emulate the look myself with a Sony. I have good material to start with as majority of those Velvia shots were doubled on A7RV. But in some cases the colour difference is simply vast, like it was shot on another day.
Regarding MF, yes, it is tempting but I am not tempted by 4,5x6. Those bigger are a bit more expensive and then scanning is an issue. I have always had to ask other people's help here and the results were very different each time. I would have to own a scanner myself, yet another thing to put in a room and to buy (and to master ;) ).
So unless I get a good deal somewhere I won't be buying MF just yet.
