Opinions are subjective which is why its an opinion and not a fact.

It is relevant because OP asked forum's opinion if he should buy e-mount or a-mount. My opinion is he should buy e-mount for reasons mentioned above. Most importantly lenses are intended to be kept for a long time and e-mount provides greater longevity in my opinion.
Yes, but the way you phrased it was not that open, not in the way you phrase it now. How you phrase it now sounds a lot like my thinking when I mentioned the E-mount Sigma 28-70/2.8 DG DN (not to be confused with the A-mount Sigma 28-70/2.8 DG HSM ), add something like a cheap Minolta 28-105/3.5-4.5 or 24-85/3.5-4.5 for the film urge and you're set for both E-mount AND A-mount without major compromises.

It's a Modern Art Degree sort of thing I've now gathered!
This is what I meant. She would take different pictures if it wasn't for film.

huh? I did use phrases like "I consider" or "I don't consider". Pretty clear it was just an opinion (and hence subjective).

Any how.... yes that would be my suggestion too something like 28-70/28-75 etc or even 28-200mm since he is considering f4 and 28-200mm is f4 till 80mm and f4.5 till 110mm (not to mention f2.8 at 28mm). It's also fairly usable wide open.
The Minolta glass are also small, light and cheap. Add a 100-200mm if you want a bit more reach. Can get those for £20-30.

For some odd reason, she considers that part of the charm of the whole process! She is also heavily into deliberate over exposure/crossed exposure (mixing two different subjects on the same negative) so I just leave her to it....

Best regards, Neil.

I understand. Cross exposure is a lot of fun, and something I like doing too on film.
I guess I could kinda do it in digital too but for some reason never tried it.

Yes you did, followed by a really strong opinion that left little room to disagree. I leave it at that.

Again, exactly what I thought.

I have several A mount bodies and a couple of E mount. I also have the Sony 24-105/4 for E mount and the 24-70/2.8 SSM Mk I for A mount. I use the latter on E mount via the LA-EA5. I also have the Sony 28-75/2.8 and Minolta 28-70/2.8. I only have two E mount lenses, the other being the 16-50 PZ on my A6000 - I use a lot of A mount lenses adapted via the LA-EA5 (A7Riv) and LA-EA4 (A6000).

In terms of film use of an SSM lens limits you to a very few bodies, the Minolta would be my recommendation if you need screwdrive. Mine has got very stiff or I'd still be using it often - it just renders so beautifully.

On my A7Riv the 24-105 is a lovely all-round performer, but the 24-70/LA-EA5 is as good or better within its more limited range - but it is also considerably heavier and more cumbersome. It works better on the adapted A7Riv than on my A99ii, which I put down to improved AF.

I'm not sure about A7 & LA-EA3 compatibility (that adapter is useless on my A6000), if it works I'd seriously consider it in preference to an LA-EA4 since it negates the need for any micro-focus adjustment.

The other issue is stabilisation - the A7 does not have ISS, so an E mount OSS lens becomes a more attractive option.

In terms of the A58 & A68 the crop factor makes 24-70 a less attractive (to me) range, the DT 16-50/2.8 SSM is my go to lens for APS-C bodies - and it's stupidly cheap these days. The 16-80/3.5-4.5 is a very nice alternative for a bit more range (and smaller) - I have used it very successfully on the A7Riv (which is a nice 27Mp APS-C body).

Worth noting that ebay prices for the FE 24-70/4 OSS plus the DT 16-50/2.8 SSM come to less than the price of a 24-70/2.8 SSM?

Hey all, thanks for the Reponses.

i actually asked this because i recently got into e-mount with my a7 and i couldn't find any comparisons between the Sony Vario-Zeiss 24-70 f2.8 ZA and any newer lenses on e-mount even tho there are lot's of comparisons of lenses in the e-mount system itself.

the reason i was thinking about this lens was mainly because i already have and still use my a mount camera's. (the film camera is just a bonus not a nesecity)

the reason i got the a7 is because i got a really good deal on the camera with a few lenses and (after selling the lenses it came with) i got it much cheaper than i can get an a99(ii) these day's. i was looking at an ff body since i have a wide selection of Minolta lenses and wanted to see how i liked them on the sensor size it was supposed to (Full Frame).

these lenses include:
28-135mm          f4-4.5
17-35mm            f2.8-4
24-50mm            f4
28-70mm            f2.8
80mm                 f1.4
100mm              f2.8 macro
135mm              f2.8
sigma 28-70       f2.8     zen
sigma 75-200      f2.8-3.5
tamron 75-300     f4-5.6   di sp
sigma 35mm        f1.4     dg hsm art

as you can see i am heavily invested in to a mount but have been looking to get some ''sharper'' lenses or faster focussing. And since i still think using the a-mount system as viable i was looking at the Sony Vario-Zeiss 24-70mm F2.8. but since i already have an a7 i was also looking at some nice e-mount lenses. therefor my question: if i am looking at sony a mount HSM 24-70mm f2.8 lenses how do they compare to the new sony e-mount 24-70mm lenses? or maybe the zeiss lenses only compared. if i am going to switch to e-mount i want to know i do it good with the above mentioned lenses in mind.
if there is a great lens i can get for a-mount wich is 95% the performance of the e-mount competitor i would certainly consider the a-mount lens (also with prices and such in mind)

for example i have heard some nice things about the sony zeiss Vario-Tessar 24-70mm f4. but how does it perform against the sony Vario-Zeiss 24-70mm f2.8 za? i know the size difference but how does the image quality compare?

I'm using the ZA 24-70 with the LA-EA5 - but on an A7III or A7RII - i'm not sure that that 'll work fine on the original A7. My comments are on the A7III/A7RII i'm familiar with those body's (and i had an a6000 and a7II in the past).

The A-mount lenses with built in AF-motors should work fine with the LA-EA5 (i'm not sure about your A7, in the offical docs they only start talking from the A7III though...).

The older minolta-screw driven lenses need specific camera's to be able to AF with the LA-EA5 with A7-series body's (a6600/a6700/a7IV/A7RIV/A7RV/A1).

There's the option to adapt a LA-EA4 with the monster board to use screw driven lenses like the 28-135, 100mm macro, 135 f2.8. It's too slow to be usable with video - and sportsphotography. When you're in no hurry the LA-EA4r is an option (for those willing to rebuild an adapter). If you're happy with the LA-EA4 - and the 15 points AF - that's fine too. But you should know that the support in future may be more limited. The support for LA-EA2 + 4 may have been dropped in newer camera's... The Monster adapter with the A7 (1st gen = not a good idea, i doubt it'll give you AF on the A7 first generation).

I'm not such a fan of the FE Sony-Zeiss 24-70f4 - it's not bad, but there's better in FE-mount. That's why i bought the FE 24-105f4 - and a few of us have the Tamron 28-200 that's a valid and affordable option too (even well known photographers are using this as a hiking lens).

I assume the Sigma 35mm f1.4 dg hsm art has a built in AF motor - you could give that a try with the LA-EA5/3. I assume most of your lenses are screw-driven ones - so you could invest in an LA-EA4 (2nd hand) - because it may be discontinued by Sony... The LA-EA4 is not future proof though.
