I've been looking at e-mount lens from Tamron and Sigma for video use I have read reports that these lens focus ok for stills photography but not for video.
Does anyone use Tamson /Sigma lens for video that work well with the AF or should I stick to native Sony glass? Problem is the 24-70 2.8 G master is so expensive compared to the Tamron 28-75 2.8 Thanks Dave |

Hi
I have only used my lenses for video, but I did make some videos last year with a professional videographer. He had a set of Sigma Prime Art lenses for the E-mount he was very happy with. That suggests Sigma is a viable alternative |

I see there is a SOny E-mount video lens which doesn't appear in the database.
SOny 18-105mm PZ Appears to be APS-C on E. Never seen one in the metal but currently on sale s/h on CEx at £330. |

It is in the database. That is the kit zoom for the E-mount Super-35 camcorders, but plenty of APS-C stills camera users have used it. Sony also has a newer 18-110 cinema version. The Sony FE PZ 28-135mm F4 OSS is the full-frame version. The Sony FE 24-105mm F4 G OSS is pretty good for video. It is fairly parfocal with little focus breathing, with good stabilization and quiet focusing. Edited by QuietOC - 12 January 2021 at 13:42 |

It seems the Tamron 28-75/2.8 had some problems that are fixed with firmware 2.
Dustin Abbot mentioned in his review: "Unfortunately for Tamron, a few early reviewers discovered a minor focus quirk in video AF mode under a very specific set of circumstances, and, in typical YouTube fashion, I began to hear from everyone about the “broken autofocus” on the lens. I found this somewhat ridiculous, as I actually had a copy of the lens myself and was just nailing shot after shot. I had already filmed a whole 20+ minute episode (my Sony a73 review) with the lens, and the AF tracked my face literally perfectly the whole review. I’ve used the lens a fair bit on a gimbal as well for some video work, and had no issue that I could point to. I was unable to recreate this “major issue” no matter how I tried. I’m not doubting that at least someone encountered it (as Tamron immediately began working on a firmware fix), but I doubt it was ever a serious issue." Also, in this thread on DVXuser there are some happy video users. I think it will be fine. But when in doubt, the 24-105 is a good alternative (unless you need f/2.8, but adds 30mm on the long end) |

Interesting. I searched for it and couldn't find it yesterday. But there are oddities with that list - lenses appear when they shouldn't (zooms in the prime list) and sometimes disappear when they should. Edited by Miranda F - 13 January 2021 at 07:46 |
