My 7d is back in its box due to the ffb issue not being repaired, it is however for sale at a bargain price, see the classified section, if anyone is interested, the fully working grip with 3 batteries is all boxed and ready for a buyer too

Ahoy!
I haven't read all the posts on this thread so don't know if this has ben covered, but with respect specifically to the FFB issues on the 5D and 7D (this applies to the UK BTW), would it be an idea for the powers that be to contact Dave @ Camera Repair Workshop (CRW) and ask if they would like to have any 'dead or dying' 7D & 5D's donated so they have a stockpile from which to strip for parts as Sony have ceased supplying spares in order for the FFB fault to be fixed? Unless an owner is intending to source another body (say with duff IS for example) for donor parts, I was thinking that the notion might not be that daft and maybe get CRW on-board as possibly Dyxum's UK partner repair agent and by sending a consignment (it isn't that expensive for bulk postage) maybe some sort of reduced repair, servicing and cleaning rates could be negotiated. At least then old 5D and 7Ds might get a second lease of life and CRW could then create a parts bin and we Dyxumers might get something in return, but this may be one for the heirarchy to look into. After all, as an example, SRS Microsystems are sponsors to Pentaxuser (UK) and PUK members buying from SRS get free delivery if they state at the time of purchase that they're PUK members (username to be supplied at time of ordering), so similarly this could be of benefit to all Dyxumers for repairs etc. There may be other suggestions Dyxum members can think of (maybe on a separate thread), but I though it an obvious means to an end that could benefit Dyxumers and CRW alike at least from the 5D and 7D PoV. What say you? |

Good idea for the UK Mark, however our members on the continent can still have FFB repaired at Runtime in Bremen and for members in the USA S&H costs may prove prohibitive.

OK, then how about this as a suggestion. Contact the relevent repair agents in UK, EU and USA with the idea suggested (discounted repair and servicing and cleaning rates) in return for a free logo or banner insertion on the Dyxum website (you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours) so to speak. Inform them of the ever growing global membership to the Dyxum website and give them the historical blurb about the site and it's membership. Ask if members booked a service, repair or sensor clean that Dyxum members will get a preferred rate and they (the agent) get free advertising. Dyxumers will have to provide their username when booking the service to qualify for the discounted rate. Dyxumers then get a discounted service from a reputable rated and/or authorised agent, the repair company gets free exposure and likely more business. This then as you've said will be in UK, EU and USA (agents from other countries/continents could be added). Maybe do it on a 2 year renewable basis. I'm sure Dyxumers would post their FB on the site giving their experiences with the repairing agent, and thus it's a symbiotic relationship that benefits all concerned. I'm not a marketing person, but it seems like a win-win idea to me (I am a simple soul by nature). Maybe run a poll or even broach the idea to powers that be @ Dyxum Towers! |

do you think that CRW would be willing to buy faulty 5d/7d bodies so that they can migrate working components from one body to another......
this way some users can get something in return for an otherwise unusable body |

No, I meant donating dead 7D/5D bodies to CRW that owners have no intention of getting repaired. |

Consensus is that there would be no problem in reciprocal advertising so feel free to contact CRW if you wish to 'test the water'. I do see an issue however in CRW using used parts. There is no way to distinguish the old charge cam (cause of the FFB problem) from the 'modified' version. As CRW guarantee their repair work I think they would be loathe to use old parts. |

Hi there
It has a main board fault, the camera works fine but the card interface is broken. I have been told by CRW that there are no spares but if I can find another 5D with a different fault it should be possible to swap the main boards over and then swap the eproms over to restore all the system setting to the new mainboard. |
