Impressive. Quite some further improvements.
I am curious to see the output of the new sensor, and the adjusted pricing of the A7R III that will follow for sure (if not for new ones immediately, then 2nd hand at least) .

Hmmm....
The A7R3 is still usable w/o GM lenses, so a complete different camera..

It has slightly smaller pixels than 24 MP APS-C cameras, but only 10 FPS even in APS-C mode.

Are PDAF points still limited to f/8?

Not sure why the lens mount and EVF aren't further from the grip. The EVF remains offset to the right side of the rear screen which looks odd, and certainly doesn't help ergonomics. The little A5x00 body has more room between the grip and the lens mount.

The camera's 2mm wider than previously, and it looks like it went all between the mount and the grip if you check the photos. Also, if you look at how the grip is shaped, you can see how they've both carved out more room between the mount and the grip as well as shifting position of certain controls to change how the fingers go along said grip. This also doubles with the change in the back side of the grip as well.

Looks like a very fine camera. I'm liking the 16x pixel shift thing.

Any rumours about flash sync speed? Presumably its the same mechanical shutter as most of the rest of the 7 series, so 1/250.

Electronic shutter?

Electronic shutter with flash? The a7iii (not the R) blocks flash triggering completely when on silent mode. I'm sure what the 9 does.

I'm still waiting for the day that I can get a hold of a decent camera with a global shutter that has a flash sync up around 1/2000 to drown out another 3 stops of ambient. I know that day isn't today though...

Pricey battery grip, it's a hundred dollars more than all their others. Remote release probably isn't included too, you're looking at 4K total with a grip and remote.

Reports say the AF is quicker then the old one, but I did not see any mention of this.

I do not think it looks odd. If you move the EVF to the left, do it A6x00 style and go all the way. Also, if you move the mount to the left, the balance of the camera changes, especially with heavier lenses.

No it is not the same shutter, this article states: "The sound of the shutter is also improved when you are not using silent mode, making the camera sound cleaner, while not louder in the process." The sync speed is still 1/250s.

Well, you can get a decent camera with 1/2000 flash sync: Hasselblad X1D II 50C.

I do not understand why they did not release the FE 35/1.8 at the same time. The fact that they released that lens separately made me think they would release an APS-C camera with some lenses - like a nice good travel telezoom

I read somewhere (either dpreview or the alaska thing) that there are significant improvments on this side of focus. Not sure on details. (Appologies for brevity, I'm on a tablet)

I'd also like to keep my kidneys ... though thats a problem with the a7Riv too -- though you get what you pay for.

Flash sync speed confirmed as 250 as expected (from dp review)

No kidding when it comes to kidneys, $3500 US and Sony Australia just slapped up a SRP of $5699 AUD Current conversion rates makes that $500 more expensive down here than the US price.

the US price is without VAT. I understand VAT is 10% in Australia, making it $350, so, the price difference is about $150 you pay extra.

The a7R IV sounds amazing, comes so soon after the A7R III, and at around the same price?
I'm pretty much a rusted on a-mount 'dinosaur', but wonder whether there's any possibility of that new sensor (and some of its other advanced features) finding its way into a possible future a99 III????? Not that I could ever contemplate wanting/needing anything like that large a pixel count.
