Yeah, I'd balk at a camera with more than 20k on the shutter. 2000 is definitely worth that premium! I do understand the incentive to get a second battery. I did with my a7Riii. This was partly based on my experiences with the smaller NP-FW50 battery in the a7R. But I think you'll be surprised at how good the NP-FZ100 battery is. I used to shoot events with the a77ii with a battery grip, and these would press the charge in the batteries. You're taking 1-3 shots quickly, frequently, for a good couple of hours in these events. The NP-FZ100 hasn't dropped as fast as these a77ii NP-FW500s. Now, it might be coloured by the fact my 500s were quite a bit older. And I take on average less shots with the a7Riii as the autofocus system with eyes/faces is just better. But overall, the battery life improvement with the NP-FZ100 is impressive. |

I called into town to pick a spare battery up , I can't imagine not having a spare when I'm out and about .
I'll be away on holiday in Northumberland , the North York moors and the Yorkshire dales in a months time , so I'll be out all day . While that batteries being charged up ready for the next day , I can have a go at getting some shots of the Milky way with the spare . Hopefully ! It'll be nice to get away after this last 18 months anyway , rain or sun . ![]() The camera got delivered today as well . Spent a bit of time playing around with it , and it seems quite good . I'm certainly impressed by the image quality with the few random lenses I've tried on it , FE , EF , A and Vectis V mount lenses . I've found the cheapo wired remote release I got for the a3000 , and it works fine on the a7Riv , so it'll do everything I need . I've found the Sony wireless remote as well , but I think the batteries dead as nothing happens . that's why I prefer a basic wired remote release . Just waiting for the LA-EA5 to arrive now . |

Neil, I just received a new a7R4A and use the fastest UHS-II cards money can buy.. Still, saving a raw-and-best-JPG pair takes a couple seconds.. (I've never timed it, it just seems SLOW.), If you have to buy more cards, I recommentd the fastest UHS-II types.

Just counted, the red light is on for three seconds. You can however take the next picture, so it is no problem. I am using Sony V60 Tough SD-cards (277/150) - plenty fast. Unless you use a lot of burst photography, this is fine IMHO.
I do not feel the A7r4 is slow. I am sure the A9's are faster, but for the kind of photography the A7r4 is intended for, I think it is fine. But then, slow is a subjective measure of time, so YMMV ![]() |

The record time, addy, not the camera, is slow.

I did buy a couple of new cards for it , the 64gb card I have I'm leaving in my a77ii , so I bought a Lexar Professional 1667x 128GB SDXC UHS-II Card and a SanDisk Extreme PRO 128GB SDXC Memory Card . Plenty of capacity , and are more than quick enough for my needs . I typically shoot single shot only , for any sports type shooting I'll continue with the a77ii . I think the a900 will be semi-retired ! One thing to note , I am surprised at how well the battery holds up . I've made a few improvements on lenses , and will give them all a good going over while I'm on holiday the next couple of weeks . I already had an FE 28-70 lens and the 28mm and 50mm FE lenses along with the fisheye and ultrawide converter for it . I've since bought the CZ 24-70mm f/4 and have just placed the winning bit on ebay for the compact Sony 28-60mm lens ( hopefully it'll be delivered before I set off ). I've picked up a Sigma MC-11 to use some of my Canon lenses on , the 24-70mm f/4 L and 70-200mm f/4 L along with a Sigma 120-400mm lens . So I'll be able to have a good play with them before I decide if I need to buy a Sony E-mount tele lens . I've got the Sony LA-EA5 and I'll be comparing lenses with some of my Minolta lenses . I'll also be testing how they behave with my re-chipped Minolta teleconverters too . |

I thought you'd be surprised by the battery. It really is quite impressive. |
