   About ten days back I spent about 4-5 days in the southwest US. Specifically Utah and Arizona.
Now I'm scared of using those words since so many great photographers have captured absolutely stunning pics of these places that mine would at best seem amateurish.

With that caveat in mind, here's a few from me.

At Zion national park.

1. The three patriarchs in the morning light.

2. Virgin river flowing out from the canyon.
(It was more of a gentle stream at this point)

3. Golden glow

4. River thru the canyon.

5. Backlit trees against the canyon wall.

6. Untitled.

7. Walls and cliffs.

	Well, I decided not to share my pictures from Zion because they were not that good - so, coming home with shareable pictures is a win in my book I really like #7 - depth, colours, light and shadows. Very nice

	@skm.sa100: I'm jealous! This trip is on my bucket list and your photos are inspiring. It's incredibly difficult to be at the right place, at the right time, with the right light. Doubly so when they might be different for each iconic location. Cheers... Brian

	I think you captured the area well, not at all amateurish Looks like you may have used a 50mm prime?

	Addy, thanks for your comments. I'm sure you do have decent pics from your trip. Jack, thanks. Looking forward to your shots from back then. I'm sure the canyon hasn't changed much in that time. Brian, southern Utah and northern Arizona are special for me. This is the fourth time I'm visiting and each time I feel a deeper sense of awe for the place. You need to line things up to make it happen. You won't be disappointed. As for photography, I don't even try to get great shots. It's an exercise in futility. I go there for a vacation, enjoy the trip, and do the best I can and that's it. Nat Geo will have to look elsewhere for their next 'tog! Joseph, glad to see you think my pics are good. I like your Western landscapes as well. My go to lens was the 16-105 on the A77ii. No primes. I must've used it at many different FLs. Thanks, Pieter. Didn't notice the spot on #6. Will fix it next time I'm fiddling around with the pics from this trip. Regards Sashi

	Thanks, angora and Fred! Day two. We hiked to the top of the canyon to what's very imaginatively called "Observation Point". One can get a bird's eye view about 2200 feet straight down. 8. At Observation Point. One can see the Virgin river snaking thru the canyon floor in white. The narrow black band next to it is a two lane road. Barely visible from this height and distance. The river continues to the right. The jagged cliff closest center right of the image is called "Angel's Landing". Climbing up there from the canyon floor is THE number one most popular trek in all of the USA. 9. Looking down. The sheer wall of red rock presents an impressive spectacle. 10. Zooming into Angel's Landing. (Note the trekkers who've managed to make it to the top). 11. Vertical compo. 12. Almost the same but in landscape. 13. Looking down again. It's difficult to capture the scale of the sight that met my eyes. At 10mm, there are large empty spaces and the depth isn't that well represented. 14. Conical cliffs of white sandstone amongst red rocks. 15. Sandstone slopes. Precariously perched trees. Regards Sashi N.B. Yes, I didn't take out the dust bunny. To be continued... 	Next breath taking series, Sashi. I thing I have to go there again but this time for a few days. My first (and last so far) time there was a few hours trip so it was obvious that I couldn't see even a small part of what you saw. And if we add Bryce and Great Canyons in a close neigbourhood and then Arches and Monument Valley.... boy-o-boy - come back to the ground from cloud nine. Edited by Jadom - 26 May 2022 at 16:37

	Thanks Jack. If you're interested, you gotta go. I went in mid May for two reasons: to avoid the heat and the crowds. Also, I went during weekdays and avoided the weekend to stay far from the madding crowd.

	We followed up the hike to Observation Point with a quick trip thru route 9 that cuts through the park. 16. Checkerboard mesa. Made up of sandstone and called so due to obvious reasons. 17. Arch formation in the making. If the rock is strong enough, erosion might open up and arch. If not, the mid section will collapse leaving two spires (or hoodoos). 18. King of the hill. 19. Craggy striations. 20. More cliffs and walls. The interesting thing is that these aren't mountains or hills but sheer walls that are super tall but relatively thin. 21. For a magazine cover. 22. Canyon overlook point. That switchback is route nine that we traversed. To be continued...
