a300/a350 questions and answers !

I think it is inappropriate to compare LV as implemented in the A350 with the lack of LV in the A700 ( and I bet it won't be in the A900 either). First, it begs the question of whether A700 users even want or need this feature. Certainly, earlier earlier implementations by other manufacturers (Canikon) were clumsy. Sony's implementation is much more elegant but requires a pentmirror viewfinder which offers less coverage of the image and is less bright. It remains to be seen if using a pentaprism, anyone can produce a LV function that is as quick and accurate as on the A350. So we come full circle. Would I give up the advantages of a pentaprism viewfinder on my A700 ( and the A900) just to get LV? My answer is no.

No such option. I was happy to get the chance to use my peleng lens with live view and then realized i can't do it !

I thought they may have implemented it like on the A200, i.e. the lens check is disabled when using M mode. Can you try this with the A350?

Now that i learned that is quite useful to ask if in doubts    here is a question for MHohner or anyone else; is there any "secret" trick to enable this "DRO driven" metering in live view mode? I got same exposure and results in live view or normal mode.

So manual focus lenses can not be used in A mode, can be used only in M mode?Do you know why they did this?

It wasn't supposed to be so; at least from all materials i have.
1200 zone metering was developed by Apical (DRO) and is supposedly reading RGB signals.
The differences should be most significant when shooting in strong backlights or when strong light sources are in frame.
But as i said it acted just as the ordinary honeycomb metering and i'm not sure if i was missing something.
I found a statement that this will not work if spot or center weighted metering is selected but i didn't succeed to get it work in matrix metering as well.
Someone will helpfully put some light later.

Might be a bit too late, but given that the A200/300/350 have no DOF Preview button, is there an option to choose whether the Focus Hold Button (on the lens) does DOF Preview or Focus Hold?

This might just be relevant to macro shooters with the A300/350, who might:

- choose DOF Preview for the Focus Hold Button
- sell their Tamron 90mm F2.8 Macros in favor of a Sony/Minolta 100mm F2.8 Macro with Focus Hold Button

Thus, our problem with not having a DOF button is solved! Just buy a lens with a Focus Hold Button.

DOF Preview ALSO does Focus Hold and Exposure Lock, which is quite handy.
