No it is the 18-55mm Sam ii as suplied with my A68 when I bought it new.
But as I said it works fine on the A68 still.

Yes, you have the II lens that came with the A68. That YouTube video has the original 18-55 SAM, not the II.

But the fault I am getting is exactly the same.

Sometimes there's a bit of play in the camera mount. Tray to spin it a bit more after it clicks to check if it problem disappears.
Another thing you can check is to mount the lens on a teleconver or auto extension tubes (not the 5 pin ones) and check if it works.
Don't think, Just click it!!

Just take the camera back to Wex and try another SAM or SSM lens on it. That will tell you what is going on. Others have reported similar issues with later cameras, the latest being @Photosopher with his A99ii's. If it is what I suspect, will require replacement of a fuse on the main board, or replacement of the whole board. For you to decide - return it, or only use screw drive lenses on it (If Wex decide it is uneconomic to repair)?

I have the same problem with my A580. I had no idea anything was wrong with it until I bought my first SAM lens when the camera was 13 months old (I bought it new). I just use it with screw drive lenses and nothing else has gone wrong with it.

Good thing you bought it from a reputable store and that you're protected by European consumer laws (until march )

Just to wrap this thread up, yes it is a board fault, Wex offered it to me for £80 which considering the fact it is immaculate and in all other ways works perfectly I have accepted. I really only intend to use it with Minolta lens and it fits my purposes perfectly with the 17-35 Minolta fitted and a 100mm macro in my pocket!

Again thank you to all those who have contributed with their help and advice.

Now to get a A99!

A99m2? The AF of the A99 might be disappointing after the A68.

Nice deal btw.

Yes sorry my mistake, the A99ii or a A77iii if Sony ever releases one, I just do not feel that the A77ii whilst being a better camera than the A68 actually offers me enough extra to buy one.

But it will be a good few months before I can splash out on anything and I am very happy with what I have, both are much better cameras than I am a photographer!
