hello Forum,
I am at the moment on holiday in Croatia, Mali Losinj island. I am using a A580 with CZ 16-80 AF lens, that's the only lens I have taken with me. I have this problem, since a few days, when I turn on the A580, a lot of times I can hear some internal motor noise, and then the LCD screen turns black, and in the viewfinder everything is dark. It's like the camera makes a spontaneous reboot. When I shut off the camera and then turn on again, it will happen again. Only when I focus on something the camera starts working normally. But the problem returns the next time I turn the camera off en on again. Most of the time this happens, and sometimes the camera starts up normally, like 80%-20%. I tried to change a lot of small settings in the setup menu, but the problem is still there. Is anyone familiair with this problem or symptoms, with the A580, and/or CZ 16-80? Thanks in advance! aha, I have found this topic, seems a common problem for the A580

Weird.
Both the LCD and viewfinder are black, maybe the mirror is up? The A580 uses a secondary sensor for live view. Did you try to turn it on without lens to see if the mirror is up? With every electronic device: get the battery out and leave it for a period of time, then re-insert a fully charged battery - sometimes it helps. Edit: seems slightly different from what you describe, but it could be related. Edited by addy landzaat - 28 April 2017 at 21:00 |

oh I am sorry, I have to be more clear, I meant the LCD in the viewfinder turns off (black), not working. The mirror is not a problem.
I will take out the battery for a whole night, but from what I have read I assume it is some kind of electro-mechanical failure. |

A solution was reported in one case. Have you tried that? |

No contact cleaner nearby, but I took out the battery and worked the power button a lot of times, and turned the control wheel a lot of times, and with a fully loaded battery the camera is working normal, at the moment. I will report it when the reboot/startup symptoms come back.
I didn't use the camera for a few months, so maybe there is dust inside, or a rusty internal contact. But this made me realize again all electronic tools and gadgets will die one day, sooner or later, regardless of price. |

Not sure about that.
My HP15 calculator (1980-ish) still works fine. ![]() |

Found my own topic from way back, my camera was having hick-ups again.
I sprayed contact cleaner between shutter button and on/off switch, that didn't help the first time I tried. The second time I also sprayed at the aperture jog wheel, and now the camera seems to be working normal, after extended use. Hopefully it will keep working normal for a while. |

I encountered a similar issue with my A580. In the end turns out to be a faulty sd card. Sometimes the camera blocked a shot without any message. After cleaning and checking connection, I used the switch to a sony card which was laying around. Issue solved.....

okay, thanks, I will try this too.
I thought the problem was solved with contact cleaner, but I was wrong. I used the camera only on a tripod for a long period, so I turned off anti-shake. Then the camera has no problems. When I turn on anti-shake, the problem comes back, random shut off immediately after turning on the camera, with some winding noise, or when I press the focus button, than it shut's off too. I will try an other SD card, and maybe a Sony MS duo. Or buy an other A mount camera, I guess it is time to move on. |

Maybe the steady shot is broken. I had something similar with my a100 years ago. The camera made an awful noise when put on. And images showed a not to miss parallax. O, if you move on to another camera and lay the a580 to rest, you will go through a period of grief. At least I did.. |

That's too bad, reading the symptoms I agree with bartman that a broken anti-shake is the problem.
Maybe in its place here, a shameless plug for the A580 that's been for sale here for a long time. If you make a sensible offer I'll happily sell it to you. On the other hand, if you just leave anti-shake off and use slightly shorter exposure times your camera still seems usable that way, in the old film days I always shot without anti-shake, so while it's nice to have I don't consider it essential. |

I tried the camera with empty card slots, the problem showed up. So I guess it's not related to memory card errors.
I found this too: https://www.flickr.com/groups/1192873@N25/discuss/72157644903439171/ https://www.flickr.com/groups/1525626@N25/discuss/72157646812556239/ Maybe I try to open up the camera and clean it better: https://www.flickr.com/groups/1525626@N25/discuss/72157639250616696/ And I will ask Sony repair what the cost will be, if a 580 repair is still possible. I will not buy an other 580, maybe a A68 is a nice replacement. |

I replaced my a580 with a77m2. It has cons en pros, but my output stayed of similar quality. |
