DPR is reporting the imminent announcement of this camera, and I suppose the interesting thing is that the specifications appear to be embedded in the teaser video metadata:
It will be interesting to see (a) the price point and (b) the actual specification/features. |

Seems pretty video focused except for the Megapixels. That is not enough for a 3:2 sensor for 16:9 8K. Maybe 4K will use a 6K crop and be gimbal-like with their active stabilization.
It sounds like it will be more expensive than a used A7RIV. |

If there was 8k it would have been one of the keywords. So indeed, no 8k. It also wasn't expected to be included. Bird eye AF is interesting.
SAR says it will be €2799,- They also say full frame 4k30 is from 7k and the s35 4k60 from 4.8k. We'll see if they are correct. |

The unlabeled, locking, customizable exposure compensation dial is a little odd. I still like the NEX setup of having exposure compensation selection as the down click on the main dial. The directional click + rotate to adjust action is efficient UI.
The current dedicated exposure dial has some drawbacks. It puts the camera into 1/3 stop exposure mode when set other than zero when the camera is set to use half stops. The unlabeled dial might allow exposure compensation to work with half stops. I forget to check the setting on the exposure compensation dial/live-view fairly often. Unmarking the physical dial will make the setting easier to ignore. |

Oh, yeah, I see it on the Northrup stills. That is weird, indeed.

Maybe it can be remapped to some other function like some folks have speculated?

Well, its been announced, saw the Sony video and watched three other "first-look" reviews. There are many things to like, shutter closes when off or changing lenses, lossless compressed RAW, bigger grip. Those were the things that made me consider a purchase. Hope bird-eye AF works as claimed, that is a biggie for my local golden eagle neighbors.
I'm very much on the fence regarding the flip out screen. I absolutely hate an off axis screen, (likely why I'll never get rid of my a99 with its multi-angle LCD) but it does offer a usable tilt in portrait mode, so perhaps I can adjust-maybe. The "buy now or wait for a price drop" question comes down to a single feature-does it support A-mount screw drive lenses with the LA-EA5? I own way too many A-mount screw drive lenses that I will never be able to replace with E-mount versions (OK, mainly the 1.8/135 ZA) so a full transition to E from A bodies still in question. Looking to see other reviews, but want the full instruction manual to see what it says about older lenses with the EA5. |

DPReview mentions that it has breathing compensation. I have been wondering why they hadn't implemented that yet. It seems to naturally follow distortion compensation. I still wonder if they had already implemented this in other recent cameras.

I'm also on the DPReview forum, and a poster there says he contacted Sony regarding LA-EA5 compatibility. Sony confirmed to him that the a7IV has full compatibility with screw drive A mount lenses.
![]() Still want to see this confirmed on a full post from Sony, but it sounds good! |
