I have just had my trusty a77 in for a service as the rubber ring on the front selection dial has broken.   Sadly I had a call today saying that it can’t be fixed as the parts are no longer available. I can survive without using this dial and I also figure that if I have to use it I could just get a paper clip or something similar and manually move the settings…
That aside… if I had to go down the road of a new camera, what would I be happy with? I love the fact that this is a crop sensor camera and my 90/2.8 is usually glued on the front of it for all my macro shooting and it’s a-mount so more versatile for me as I only have the one e-mount lens… such a quandary!!

The a77ii is a very good camera , I've had one for years .
The best A mount camera is the a99ii if you can stretch to the budget for one .
Superior in every way .
Easy enough to put in crop mode if you want .
Their the best A mount you'll ever get now .

After that your looking at an E mount camera that is fully compatible with the LA-EA5.
The a6600 is the APS-C model . Good camera , but totally different ergonomics to the a77 .
For full frame there's the a7Riv, a7Rv , A1 and I believe the a7Riv .
All will serve you well .
The a7R series , if your using crop mode , will still give you the resolution your used too . The others would be lower .

Other than that an E mount body would need the LA-EA4 to use screw driven A mount lenses , where the AF is not as good .
However the camera bodies are cheaper , depending on model .

Keeping your eye open for a low shutter count a77ii would be a good option though , and then look out for a back up body .
This assumes you were happy with the a77 .

Neil's advice is sound, but, if you are happy with the A77, the cheapest option is to buy another. If that one goes wrong you will then have two, one to cannibalise for parts to keep the other going.

Apart from that there are two options for a crop sensor A mount upgrade, the A77ii and the A68 (both 24MP). Then the A99 (24MP) and A99ii (42MP) for full frame, but you will lose resolution with crop sensor lenses. On the A99ii this is 18MP, which is pretty good but not what you are used to. On the plus side it is a very good camera and full frame is great.

The downside of the A99ii is the price, you can get an A7Riv and LA-EA5 adapter for not much more. This was my upgrade path from the A99ii,

Reprogramming the A77 front wheel function to the rear wheel might be an option (gear-icon menu 4). Takes 3 seconds and then some getting used to.

There is a thread on these dials somewhere on the forum - I am sure, with explanations how to repair it yourself.

Then there is the advice of Amrep that works great in A- or S-mode.

Dealing with an adapter is not that nice I feel. If you really like the A77m2 next to your E-mount, get another one. It is a great camera and used not that expensive these days. If money is no problem, look at the A99m2 - same shape, but better built and better AF. In crop mode a nice 18mp and in full frame mode a whopping 42mp (like your A7r3).

Edit: in your post you say A77, in your signature and elsewhere you say A77m2. Either way, get at least a 77m2 as it is the better camera IMHO.

Happy to help. My a77ii in very good condition is hardly getting out since I've had my a99i and a7iv cameras, and I'm very happy for it to go to a good home at a fair agreed price, where I know it will be loved and used.
