Apologise if this has been covered off previously - Performed a search but could not locate an answer to my query.

A bit of background - I just purchased an A77II off ebay this very morning which is almost brand new (Shutter count at 875 shots) complete with a HVL-F43M plus a vertical grip - All items in as new condition due to the low use. It should arrive in the next couple of days.

I currently own an A700 which I will still hang on to as a backup.

I forgot to ask the owner as to whether the A77II is at the latest firmware version (v2..?) so I just took a quick look at the Sony support website (US and Aus) however I cannot seem to locate a downloadable file for any of the A77II firmware files.

Is the firmware upgrade process similar to the A700 where the user downloads the firmware file onto their PC first and then runs it from their PC, or is the A77II upgrade process different eg:upgrade over a live internet connection etc.

The user manual which I have downloaded is scant on this topic.

Thanks

Costas,
On reading your post, my first thought is that hopefully your newly acquired a77ii will be running the latest firmware 2.0 as this was released 6 years ago in December 2014.

On the a77ii page of the Cameras database here in Dyxum, there are hotlinks to firmware updates in different regions of the world and for Windows and Mac platforms embedded in the page on the Firmware Download line. However, these no longer work, being 6 years old.
Perhaps some Mods/Admins might be able to refresh them with hotlinks that do? if such are available from Sony?

As a last resort, I looked on my own iMac computer and found the a77ii firmware updater software that I downloaded back then, but when I tried to open it, I got a message saying it doesn't work with the current Mac OS.

So hopefully someone in Dyxum may have some answers should you need them after first checking whether or not your newly acquired a77ii is running the version 2.0 or not. Here's hoping it is.

Beyond that, you'll love the a77ii. A very fine camera indeed.

Weird, you can download the manual, but you cannot download the firmware. Not on the US, NL or GE websites.
It might be worth it to send Sony a message - I do not know how responsive Sony Australia is, but an email is easy

Yes - That's certainly more than likely what will transpire, especially since the shutter count is so low.

Just out of curiosity - I tried searching for the firmware for my old A700 and these are no where to be found either on Sony support (albeit I have all the A700 versions here on my PC).

Just as Addy has mentioned the manuals etc are there, I also checked Aus and US Sony sites for the A700 firmware but are no longer present.

So either they are no longer listed (removed, too old / not supported any longer?) or it may just mean a stuff up (more likely scenario) on their website(s) which may link back to the one global location for the files...?

I'll shoot off an email just to see what they have to say...

If you can find one of the original web addresses, there's just a faint chance it might still work. Sometimes the links are removed but the original is still there (though more usually it's the address that is changed or deleted).

Why oh why couldn't they have pulled the VER. 2.00 before I did my update. Not to start a "Conspiracy theory" but I think the ILCA-77M2Q Firmware Update Ver. 2.00 was sabotage. Wouldn't be the first time a tech company used an "update" to degrade their older tech. My A77II's AF has never been right since the update.

Ran Google translate on the Japanese website which QuietOC has thoughtfully posted and right at the beginning, it states...

The main software version is "Ver. 1.01" or lower.
No update is required for "Ver. 2.00"

Thanks for those links QuietOC...

Is the firmware okay for non-Japanese cameras? In the past Japanese camera producers made cameras with only Japanese menus. I do not know if that is the case for the A77m2. But it is worth a check.

I don't know if this will help, but I still have the original V2.00 Zip File I downloaded onto my PC when I updated my A77ii.

It still opens no problem and gives instructions on what to do.

I found the links in Google's cache of the sony.com support page(s).

I managed to get hold of the seller just before he packed all the gear up early yesterday morning.

He checked the camera and it is running v2 firmware.

Thanks anyway..!

Well a short time after I posted, my relatively new A77II has turned up.

Stuck a battery in it, took a few quick snaps to check basic functionality and confirmed it is indeed running V2 firmware.

Best of all...

It is pretty much in mint condition... Same goes for the F43M and Grip...
