a7iv Firmware updated to V2.0

Firmware for the a7iv has been updated to version 2.0, downloadable to your computer from the Sony website for transfer to a clean, formatted SD card that is then inserted into slot 1 of the camera, with full charged battery, from which it is installed. The Sony website has all the step by step instructions.

First check the version of firmware installed on the camera.
When updating from Ver. 1.01 or earlier, you need to update to Ver. 1.05 before proceeding with the Ver. 2.00 update. Only update to Ver. 2.00 after updating to Ver. 1.05. If you try to update to Ver. 2.00 without updating to Ver. 1.05, an error will occur and you will not be able to update.

Then you will need to download and install the Creators' App to your smart phone, and sync/connect the phone to your camera.
The superseded Imaging Edge App can then be deleted.

So, really just connectivity? And the creators app "allows you to transfer images from the camera to your smartphone, shoot remotely, and use various functions" - basically the same as Imaging Edge Mobile.

Hope this doesn't mean the Imaging Edge Mobile app will disappear soon as I use it often. Another app would be fine, but will they introduce connectivity for older cameras? It seems the camera needs a firmware update for the creators app and Sony usually doesn't do firmware updates on older cameras....

And the promised focus stacking? Don't read anything about it...

Focus stacking was just a rumor; unfortunately, it probably turned out to be insubstantial - I'm also very disappointed.

After the firmware update, the Imaging Edge software probably no longer works; anyone who wants to continue using it should do without the update.
