While Sony is still getting the bugs out of the a1 firmware update before re-relaunching it, they have released a7iv Firmware update 3.0.
If you're not already on Version 2.0, you need to progressively update version by version to get there.
Then it's a matter of connecting a formatted SD card to your computer, downloading the update from the Sony website, transferring the Bodydata.DAT file to the clean SD card, ejecting the SD card, placing it into card slot 1 on the camera, going to the Setup Menu to Version, and then selecting Update. There are several lines of information to read through, then click on update and the camera does the rest over the next 10 minutes or so.
Unlike the a1 update, this new firmware doesn't wipe all your settings and preferences and cause them to revert to factory default.

According to their blurb, it adds support for Network Streaming function.
Notes:
Creators' App Ver. 2.3.1 or later is necessary. Settings must be made in the Creators' App in advance. For more information, please visit the Creators' App support website.
This service may not be available in some countries or regions. Please refer to the support page.
Enables display of the Wi-Fi signal strength
The maximum number of images that can be recorded in one folder has been increased to 9,999
Adds support for C2PA format.(The license availability date is undecided)
Adds support for Custom Grid Line
Fixes an issue where the time code wasn't always retained after a power restart
Fixes an issue where certain custom key operations could cause a restart
Improves the exposure stability when using extended ISO during movie recordings
Improves the operational stability of the camera

Just did the update and it went smoothly. Yet to try the camera out but as a still photographer I doubt I'll really see much difference.

BTW, an overview of all current FW versions can be found in the A- and E-mount camera index. I'll try to keep it up-to-date

Just updated my A7iv to version 3.0. That went perfect.

Took it out for some shooting outside, but: my version of LR doesn't see the RAW-files anymore, or more accurate: the built-in JPEG's. Conversion to DNG makes the JPEG's visible again. Before the update it was a perfect match.

Again the need for an updated LRC? I hate the subscription-model of both Adobe and Microsoft

Actually, the problems occurring after such an update make me reluctant inupdating anything

If problems occur after updating, can the camera be restored to an initial factory setting?

Yes, I guess so. But I reckon that LR is the cause of this issue...

It's my understanding that it is not possible to revert to superseded versions of firmware after later versions have been installed.
That goes for most electronic devices including computers.

Presumably third party post processing programs won't take long to catch up with a7iv Verion 3.0.

I only asked because it is possible to reset some Android smart phones to factory settings.

Supposedly it is possible on Windows computers to revert to a restore point, though restore points have never produced positive results for me and I have traditionally used data back up and OS re-install.
