    Posted: 24 August 2022 at 08:47
Got an email from Sony Australia advising the a7iv has a firmware updates from v1.01 to v1.05, and then to v1.10.

Here's what it brings:
Alpha 7 IV firmware update now available.
Discover intuitive operation that goes further with new features, giving you even more creative freedom.

New features include:
Select M and S sizes in addition to L when using the RAW recording lossless compression method
Retain shutter speed and ISO sensitivity settings dedicated for flash photography
Touch Shutter function now added
Improved accuracy of Eye AF feature
Record camera’s serial number in the metadata of movie files
Improved operability of Wi-Fi connections
One minute setting to Power Save by Monitor menu now added
Brightness of viewfinder display more responsive to ambient brightness
Improved operational stability of the camera

Rather clunky, but it works.
Needs to be done in 2 separate updates: from v1.01 to v1.05, and then from v1.05 to v1.10, downloading each of the updates and uploading them in turn.
You need to down load each program to your computer from the Sony website, then transfer the program icon to your Sony formatted SD memory card, insert that memory card into slot A, go to Menu - Set-up - Set-up Option - Version - read the instructions and hit install. Camera needs to have a fully charged battery, and it takes about 6 minutes.
Having done the v1.01 to v1.05 update, you repeat the process with the v1.05 to v1.10 update.

Sony Australia must be lagging behind in it's emails as it was V1.10 that was released, with the caveat that if you are upgrading from V1.01 you would first have to install V1.05.

What are the M and S settings in lossless compressed RAW?

On SAR it is reported the firmware update is pulled? Couldn't find any other reports....

Don't know about SAR, but I've downloaded and installed both updates sequentially as recommended.
Haven't fired the camera since, but don't really expect to notice that much of a difference in the way I use it.

Guess it should be medium or small, as in Sony finally would support smaller RAW files rather than just full sized ones.
Some chatter over at DP Review that it's been pulled due to update issues depending on what you had the RAW compression set at before the update.

Was wondering if it is small in pixel count or in file size. Dpreview has the answer: Lossless Compressed Raw (cRAW) still image capture in two new sizes: small (8.2MP), medium (14.2MP).

Sony did a Leica

Do I understand correctly that α7 IV has returned to the traditional method firmware upgrades that do not require a separate computer software to be run to do the update?

I can also see version 1.20 on the site.
I am still a900 user (yes... I know ;) ) and a6000, but was thinking of finally getting into E mount full frame world.
I have my eyes on A7iv and was wondering what A7R V will bring.

What keeps me off A7iv is that Eye AF issue people were reporting. It was supposed to be fixed in 1.01 firmware version but apparently wasn't.
For example, see here.

Or here (dpreview's summary on 1.01)

Has any of you seen any improvement in 1.10 or 1.20 versions in that aspect? Does it nail the focus on eyes and not eyebrows like before? (at least for some people)

I'm not sure if buying A7iv is "safe", I do want Eye AF to work flawlessly. My kids are super fast and I would like to rely on that feature when shooting family pictures.

What site? Checked the Dutch Sony site and only the 1.10 is there, not the 1.20 version.

Polish one:
https://www.sony.pl/electronics/support/e-mount-body-ilce-7-series/ilce-7rm4/downloads/00016865

edit:

I can see now this is A7Riv... sorry for confusion :(

And regarding my family photos, you are right it will be better anyway as now it is one, big, blurred story ;)
But I have been sitting on a a900 for 14 years now. I would like my new camera to work so well, I do not feel like changing it anytime soon.

So the 1.10 is out there since several days and it seems people are split in terms of their experiences. There are some that are happy, some still not, some experience worse af after upgrade.
Definitely doesn't help me to decide if I should buy this one...

I don’t have any problems since the update I did last week. But I don’t see any benefits either
