I am in a learning curve with this camera. I some how rendered the monitor blank and all of the settings are now only visible in the viewfinder. I have, as far as I know, followed directions from the manual but I cannot get the menus back on the monitor.
Please be advised I do not grasp things right away and your patience is appreciated.
thank you.

Welcome to Dyxum. Camera Settings Reset is the easy place to start.

There is a FINDER/MONITOR menu option that can be Auto (default) or Viewfinder(Manual) or Monitor(Manual).

Deactivate Monitor is an option for custom keys. And there is also a Finder/Monitor Sel. option for custom keys. I miss having a dedicated button for this.

Hi and welcome to Dyxum!
I think you should try pressing the “disp” part of the control wheel (top quarter) that toggles what you see on the display.

The above would indeed get you run through all the display options of the active screen (EVF or back screen).

I have a related issue on my A7II since getting it, it seems an option to select either monitor or viewfinder is missing in the custom keys options list since day 1. See also :

Yes? What is your question? Newer cameras have it, the A6000 suffered from the same problem. It is an important reason (that and the AF system) I upgraded to the A6400.

Sorry, they must have added that custom key option on the A7RII which was what I checked this morning.

I stumble upon it. It is in the menu tool box icon and it has the reset option in it. I am back in business.
Thank you.

Had a similar problem yesterday which stayed that way even after checking the EVF/LCD was set to auto. Solved it by blowing on the auto sensor! Must have been some dust or something.
Miranda F & Sensorex, Sony A7Rii, A58, Nex-6, Dynax 4, 5, 60, 500si/600si/700si/800si, various Sony & Minolta lenses, several Tamrons, lots of MF primes and *far* too many old film cameras ...
