a7RivA eyecup locks

And the next eyecup that went on the Dynax 9 was glued on and is still there !

Regarding the eyecup on my bought used , but almost new , very low shutter count a7Riv , it lasted just a matter of days before it was list for ever .
No idea if it had locking tabs on it or not as it didn't stick around long enough to find out !

I've bought a few third party spares to replace it , one of which fell off again .
I knew it could only be a hundred yards back down the path I'd just walked , so found it easily .

I know why they've come off , the camera strap is put over my head into the opposite shoulder , with the camera by my side .
That way it's not putting pressure on the back of my neck , or likely to slide off my shoulder if hung of the same side .
It's as I put it pack after taking a shot the eyecup must get snagged on my jacket or something .

But in nearly thirty years of carrying SLRs and DSLRs like that , it's only ever the Dynax 9 and Sony a7Riv that's lost their eyecups .

I'd be interested in what others have to say on these "locking " eyecups ( and a link on a replacement one ) and if they really do stay on .

I would have thought the one on my a7Riv was the original Sony one , if so it didn't do a good job of locking on .

Actually I hadn't earlier even noticed this nice improvement, on the older bodies it sure can be reasonably easy to accidentally loose the viewfinder eyecup!

Quick Internet search reveals that this feature seems to have been introduced with α7S III and then α1 (which I have) and α7 IV have got this feature. The easiest way to detect the presence of this feature is look where the eye sensor is located: the design with locks has the sensor below the viewfinder, while the older ones have the sensor above the viewfinder.

Actually that isn't true. My a7Riv has the locks (which is why I started this thread) and the sensor is above the viewfinder.

Now that I did properly looked again at my α7R III and IV and even these seem to have such locks, but you still seem to be able to take the eyecup out easily without touching those locks... α1's mechanism seem to more stiff at least that the eyecup does not slide off as easily. Don't know if that is just the fact that my α1 is only few months old or improved mechanism and the slightly different eyecup design...

And they fit on the other camera... BTW, the cup from my A7Rii is a bit broken (the rubber is torn).

Well this thread has shown me a few things .

1 ; the replacement JJC eyepieces I got from Amazon are the same as the Sony locking type one . In fact if the picture shown in the above post is of a Sony one , the JJC ones tabs are slightly better.

2 ; I know the Minolta angle finder is a perfect fit on the a7Riv eyepiece because I tried it on it before Christmas .

You might laugh , but I've worked out why the eyecup fell off so easily .
I'd snapped one of the lugs off taking it off before Christmas to check if the anglefinder fitted !

Oh well, at least it was a pack of two .
