I got the list from B&H and Brian Smith, assuming it applies to what you bought:

hi!
![]() I too have struggled -big time!- to find the HSS mode. (A99 here as well + Sony hvl58 and -60, Minolta 5600hs). these flashguns are by no means intuitive, begging didn't help, nor cursing or name calling, they are unforgiving. turned out that when the swivel head of a flashgun is tilted, even slightly, like 0.5 or even 0.00001 degrees, HSS will vanish from the menu. the only way to find HSS, using an A99 + dedicated flash, is when the head of the flashgun is in the 'original position', looking straight ahead. ![]() just my 2 cents? hope you'll figure it out and will keep us posted. best of luck! |

There is a strong reason for that. In strobe mode the flash (and camera) have to be shure there will be enough power saved in the condenser for the whole serie of impulses. And there is no way to know it when any tilt or pan movement is involved since there are no sensors which might report the angle to calculate the decrease of light covering caused by such shift. |

Thanks again for the compatibility list. That certainly has to be my issue. Luckily, my photography partner is upgrading to a newer body and ill be getting his a7rII. That should hopefully work and I'll get to try that soon as we have a shoot in the next week or so.

This sort of compatibility issue is the reason I've held off on the GODOX. You don't happen to have a list of flash systems the a99 is compatible with? or baring that a way to petition Sony for a firmware update? |

I am almost positive all the godox stuff works well with the a99. Either way, if you pull the trigger, do it through Amazon. If it doesn't work, send it back. They are super easy to work with. The godox trigger I initially got was $69 and far more intuitive than the $429 profoto one i just got. You can get the godox and 3 godox flashes for $229 i believe. Thats a deal and a half if you ask me |

I'm five years in on an Amazon boycott. Henry's, here in Canada is my preferred retailer. The website said compatible with Sony, but not which Sony models. My guess is E-Mount yes A-Mount no. Which strikes me as odd because the shoe of the a77II, a99 and a99II are all the same as the A7 series.

I wouldn't be able to tell you but I can only imagine that here on the forum there has to be members that are using the Godox line. It has become fairly commonplace in the photography industry, Godox that is. |

It would probably be a good idea to check compatibility lists for the specific Godox products that interest you. With the older products it was easy to be confident that they would go both ways, but Sony seems to be making some subtle changes to the E-mount flash technology these days, while the A-mount side is frozen in time. Keeping up with that could mean that Godox has to start letting some A-mount compatibilities lapse.

The Cheese Shop is one of my favorite comedy skits from Monty Python.
