I'd like to disable the function that turns off the LCD when you raise the camera to look through the viewfinder. I've poured through the menus and can't locate anything like "eye detection viewfinder". Can I turn off this function and if so, how?

Easy: set FINDER/MONITOR to Manual (Menu: p6 of Camera 2)
Then you can switch between EVF and screen with the button on top. It is the best setting IMHO. |

I might be mis-reading your question , but it sounds like you want both the LCD and the EVF to be on at the same time ? Do you want the rear LCD to remain on whilst looking threw the EVF ? As far as I know , with all EVF cameras you can either have them set to automatic where the rear LCD turns off and the EVF comes on when you put your eye to it or you can manually switch between LCD and EVF by pressing a button . Non of my cameras , Minolta bridge cameras , Sony SLT or Sony E mount allow both the LCD and EVF to be on at the same time . I don't have an a99ii , so can't answer that one , but it would surprise me if it allowed it due to the battery drain of having two displays on , where the EVF could be on without you knowing if you just using only the LCD like you might when on a tripod . |

To clarify the problem I am having. I use a loupe to examine my image on the lcd after taking a shot. With the a99ii (and with no other Minolta/Sony camera I have had) when I raise the hood to the lcd, the lcd turns off due to the recognition and false assumption that I am starting to look through the viewfinder. I want the lcd to stay on, of course.

addy landzaat and neilt3 - Thank you both, addy for the solution and neilt3 for the explanation as to why this only occurs on my a99ii and not on any of my other Minolta/Sony cameras - the a99ii is the only EVF camera I own. I have been primarily a landscaper and with bright skies outdoors I regularly use the loupe to check the histogram, etc. on the lcd. Perhaps I should examine the camera a bit more! I had never noticed the "FINDER/MONITOR" button before. Not an equipment geek by any remote stretch as is obvious. Again, thanks.

Hi Roger,
I don't have the A99II, but I can magnify an image on my A7III using the AF on/+ button. This magnifies the image in both the EVF and rear display. Would that work in place of your loop? I use the EVF most of the time because in daylight I have trouble viewing the display screen. I think your EVF has higher resolution that my A7III. Regards, Kelly |

AudioDoc - Thanks, maybe something to try. I use the lcd mainly to view the histogram and to see a bigger full version of the image than I see in the viewfinder i.e., magnification not necessary, I am not checking for focus for example. The loupe is an easy substitute for reading glasses that I don't need for the viewfinder as I have adjusted the diopter.
