It seems from my research the a99ii does not have the S-Log picture profiles. Does it have anything tucked away in the menus like HLG instead?

The A99II has S-log

But I guess you mean the A9II mentioned in your title and the A99II in the text. The A9II is a stills camera first, therefore no S-log or HLG AFAIK. Get an A7s3 or A1 if you want video. It clearly is a decision by Sony to exclude these video options.

Yes, I meant the a9ii

The a7Riii has all these log profiles, as does the a7c and a7IV. It seems odd that they'd drop it from the a9ii, which was their flagship camera for a while. They made a big deal out of many of its advanced video functions when it was released. I don't understand why they'd omit these log options.

Did they make a big deal out of many of its advanced video functions? Just looking at the press releases of the A9 and A9II and the emphasis clearly is not on video. Like they say about the A9: "The new α9 is very capable as a video camera as well" - note the "as well."

Sony clearly omitted some video features to differentiate this cameras from more video centric cameras. The A9 seems to be aimed at stills photographers.

Basically Sony used the Canon cripple hammer

They made a point of mentioning the 4K modes, and the innovation of Eye-AF working in video modes. Which was kind o a big deal.

I mean I kind of get why they might want to take out the S-Log modes to distinguish it from the a7S series maybe, but HLG is still popular for wildlife. I think the BBC nature documentaries have all switched to it for filming.

And the a9II is supposed to be aimed at action photographers (sports, wildlife). It seems a bit disappointing that if I'm taking some wildlife pics and want to film some clips as well, I'd be stuck with Rec.709.

It sounds to me like log profiles aren't that useful in 8-bit.

I know many reviewers found it odd that those profiles weren't available on the A9 cameras.
