Isn't that the truth. Thing is, it's not just photography that is suffering the same kind of fate- nowadays it seems a vast majority want "something for nothing". Things must come fast and easy for there to be any sort of half interest- so it seems. How incredibly spoiled and sad that is. So we are staying on topic here: I think that fundamentials that film shooting have always been able to teach could give the new generation the satisfaction they ultimately seek from photography- afterall "you don't get, something for nothing". Cheers. Carl |

I still use my SRT-101, X-700, X-300 and XG-1 alongside my Dynax 3xi, 404si and 5000AF. I'm not a dinosaur, these cameras will still be working in the future, long after the digital cameras have got a card error, broken display or their sensors have gone.

If I run around the house, I might be able to complete my list of Minolta cameras. That starts with a Minolta 16, then a different kind of Minolta 16, then three Minolta 110 SLR's (two Mk1 and one Mk2). At this point I have a gap; I have no half frame Minoltas or even 24x24 Minoltas (yet). Then I pick up with a Minolta 7s, and start heading towards the 35mm manual cameras: SRT Super x2, SRT-101, X-300, XG-9, XG-M, XE (I'm sure there's more but I'm too lazy to walk around looking. Finally there's the AF's: Dynax 3, 5si, 7xi, 9xi, A7 and again, I'm sure I've missed some.
Now just don't get me started on my other film cameras; wifey might be looking! So yeah, I'm IN this particular thread! |

I've been on my own little foray into the Minolta 16 stuff...
https://www.35mmc.com/20/07/2021/16mm-film-shooting-subminature-film-photography-in-2021-by-bob-janes/ I was shooting with a 16MG at my mother-in-law's house - she has never expressed any interest in cameras over the 35-odd years I've known her, but she noticed the camera and immediately said "Oh - a Minolta 16?" Next visit she presented me with a 16II that had been bought in Singapore in the late 60s (they were in production a long time)- I was surprised when she turned down my offer to put a film in it for her... Somehow I seem to have got myself onto an explore around subminiature formats - the Pentax 110 is supposed to be arriving soon... I'm also rather a fan of the SRTs.. https://www.35mmc.com/29/09/2020/minolta-srt-101-review/ If you ever fancy writing up some reviews of some of your analogue camera kit, Hamish over at 35mmc is always open to new contributors... |

Your write-up mentions "This was an SLR camera with a 30-120 f/3.5-f/16 zoom lens" - I assume this is the equivalent focallength to FF as it otherwise is not that wide
![]() Either way impressive specs for a 1966 camera! |

Yes I think that was equivalent... if you see pictures of the thing it looks like a kids ray-gun - I can only imagine that there must have been issues mass producing...

One of my 16's is the MG and I have all the colour and close up filters too. I bought a Pentax 110 SLR but it wasn't good for slow film so I bought the Super as well and then added all the lenses except the zoom. I actually like the Minolta Auto Zoom MK2 better than the Pentax 110. My collection of half frames is BIG and I do try to use all my cameras. I was thinking I should make a spreadsheet of them all and assign a shooting week to each. Ultimately though, I have favourites and, now that I'm somewhat incapacitated and can't carry much, I limit myself a bit. Generally I'll take either of these as my top choice depending on the weather and my mood: 1. 4x5 pinhole with 4x5 dark slides and a roll film back 2. Fujica G690 with 50, 100 and 180mm lenses (I rarely use the 65mm) 3. Widepan Pro II 140 Medium format swing lens panorama (6x12). This has a 35mm insert for 24x110mm negs. 4. Minolta Alpha 7 with mainly wide to short tele but also with tilt/shifts. Minolta XE with 24mm f2.8, 35mm f1.8, 58mm f1.2 and 135mm f2.8 if I think I'll use it. The rest get used more rarely but my wee Viscawide-16 swing lens pano tickles my fancy so I often load that with a roll and drop it in with the other stuff "just in case". Maybe I should contact 35mmc ![]() |

For someone who can't carry much you have a worrying preference for bigger and heavier cameras

Well quality requires misery it seems but my 4x5 pinhole is lighter than my Alpha 7. Here's an example from that pinhole (8Banners 4x5 with 0.2mm objective: 28mm at centre, 75mm at corners) Edited by Idleidolidyll - 27 August 2021 at 22:01 |
