I have acquired a Marumi (To fit Minolta MD) Auto Extension Tube Set (13,21 & 31mm) in mint condition. I am seeking some advice if the set could be used with a Sony A500 & Minolta 404si via an adapter. My lenses are Minolta & Sony A-mount.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Michael Hurley |

Not really feasible. You would need an MD to A mount glass-less adapter and an A mount to MD adapter (which I don't think exists). An A mount extension tube set can be had for as little as $10.

I'm afraid those extension tubes are useless if you would like to use them with A mount lenses. I'm not aware there would be any adapters that would allow mounting A mount lenses on the older Minolta SR-mount. Even the other way around the adapters are not very common since the adapters either don't allow focus infinity if they don't include extra optics or if they have some glass elements, work as teleconverters. Of course, I guess the effects of these limitations would not be that harmful if you would use these adapters with these extension tubes. But of course, for that you would need a Minolta SR/MD/MC lens to mount in the front of the extension tube.

Oh,if you are tempted to buy cheap extension tubes with electric contacts to have autofocus, I just noticed this post in another thread:
Plain $10 tubes should be fine (manual focus only). And here is the relevant thread - some alternative ways of getting macro mentioned. |

Plain $10 tubes are not fine with A-mount lenses if you want to use them with lenses that are normally mounted; there's no way to control the aperture. You would always have to use the lenses reversed to access the aperture control pin. There's also no way to harm your camera if you use properly made tubes (with brand names like Kenko, Tamron, Sigma, Vivitar, for example) with all the electrical and mechanical connections. |
