It does not happen often - but sometimes everything works out. A 90 minute delay usually is not good, but this time it allowed the evening sun to come out of the clouds and this MD11 posed for the perfect shot...

Did the engines run or was your shuttertime that fast? I like the tight crop here, works very well. And the sunlight works with you too. TFS Maros.

We have currently one taxiway closed, so the MD had to shorttrack on the runway and make a U-turn. For that the right engine was on idle and left engined spooled up to provide thrust for the turn. Thats why you see the blades in one engine and you dont on the other one.

Southport Airshow Sept 14 2013. Red Arrows. BAe Hawk T.1/ 1A. A850 + Tokina AT-X 300mm F4 AF. First time the lens has been used 'properly' so not a bad start to the day.

Good one, Pirate. I like those punchy colours. Not bad for a first try with a lens :-)   I might prefer a slightly wider view though. not much but the lower left looks a little cramped. (Just a minor thing though)

Nice to have some blue skys - it's been grey and drizzly down here :-(

Thx Mikey This actually is about 90% of the original frame. It wasn't until I started to review them that I noticed that the sliding lens hood caused a slight vignette at the corners when fully extended (mental note in future to only extend to 50% - 75%) so I just did a slight crop to eliminate it which clearly is the reason for the tight appearance at the lower left corner and IMO, I think it helps to fill the frame, but the lens is chuffin' wicked! Makes similar more expensive ones of the same length and aperture look pretty lame by comparison (and not a drop of CA/PF either), but there are hundreds of cRAW files to review, though blow me down with a feather if Airplane-Pictures didn't accept it within 5 minutes of uploading it (airshow and newsworthy images uploaded within 7 days of the event get priority screening), so if it's good enough for them then that's just fine with me

There are some really superb one's to do yet, but the Eurofighter Typhoon with it's twin carrots lit up and the over-wing vapour look awesome, but they'll be for 2018 which is about how long it's going to take to do this lot, but thanks for your kind remark. Onwards and upwards . . .

Agree with Mikey on the tightness at the left. But it still is a fine shot. What's that white strip throught the text in the lower right?

A plane with a vapour trail (in solid form). See the website for more info.
