Almost a macro.

I came upon these fungi on my walk the other day, don't know what they were but the caps were about the size of a small pea or even less.  I wasn't dressed to get down in the wet grass so focusing wasn't the best but I thought the 70-200mm @ 70mm made an almost passable macro??

And the same with some contrast and multiple camera setting from my Nik Collection.

	Lovely shot of the delicate fungi in their jewelled grass background setting. Isn't it wonderful that we have articulated screens on our cameras that save us having to lie face down to get such shots? In the olden days with my Minolta 35mm cameras, and then with my first models of DSLRs with fixed rear screens, I had a right angle finder I could attach to the eye viewer but you still needed to get your eye down to that device so the articulated screen is vastly easier. 	Thanks Joe, yes I certainly agree about the articulated screen but even with it I have to crouch and therein lies the problem. I have to get up again!!

	Hi Peter, I think this is a great series! I too have come to realise that the combination of certain cameras and lenses can go a long way to overcome the need for a dedicated Macro in many situations, and this shows off the great options you have available to you if you just take a moment to think a little laterally. I do like the first as an overall image - though one could say it's a little 'busy' with the strong single fungi in the middle but the other brighter yet out of focus ones competing in the overall frame with the eye. I'm going to go 'against the flow' and say that I like the triptych more for the isolation of single fungi it has created and as a 'panel' it works really well for me; the middle image of the series is good but I really like the far right one as it gives a feeling of size and isolation really well. 	Thanks Neil, I seem to be able to cover all my options now with the 70-200mm and 24-105mm in fact it is literally months that the lens has remained on the camera with or wihout a TC. I take your point about the shot being 'busy' but there wasn't much choice as they were more or less all in a clump plus the fact that I couldn't crouch down in the wet for too long to maybe have made a better selection! They really were tiny though and I was pleasantly surprised as to what a good job this lens will do at 70mm. I'll now edit my signature which I've only just noticed is out of date and remove the 135mm lens which I sold ages ago to help purchase the above, forgot all about it ....

	Hi Peter, No problem about the 'busy' comment - nature can be so uncooperative sometimes! As for the lenses then yes; I agree that once you find a 'sweet spot' in terms of use and application it can be a long affair one has! I'm currently fixated with the 135/1.8 ZA for all sorts of reasons. Seems what works for one is seen as redundant for another! Take care and best regards, Neil.
